This is an original 1966 pressing of Calliope #138 by 'THE CHARLES', a local Buffalo NY band featuring JOHN VALBY (whom some of you may also know from his later career as DR. DIRTY).
"Motorcyle" sounds like it was taken from some biker-movie soundtrack, with a very driving beat, guitar break, tambourines, organ, muttered obscenities), multi-part harmonies on the bridge and hilarious lyrics detailing some violent scenes. Maybe the ultimate garage bike anthem. Sounds like an uptempo garage punk version of a cross between The Doors and Steppenwolf.
FUZZ ACID & FLOWERS states ''they were Rochester, New York's answer to Leather Boy Milan''. YES on the Leather Boy comparison, NO to Rochester, though... they were from the suburbs of Buffalo, baby!
You can hear it on Scum Of The Earth, or on Victims Of Circumstance, Vol. 2. The flipside ain't great (''Down By The Riverside"), but it's okay. I hate to use the "R" word but I will - this 45 is Rare, even here in Buffalo.
CONDITION: Superb condition for this title.
Labels are NM-. Very small & light coffee stain on one side only, the flip side. Not an issue, very minor- see 2nd photo. No other defects - no writing, stickers, stamps, drillholes, tears, spindle trails, etc.
Vinyl is a STRONG VG++ at least, tha many would grade NM-. In fact I think many 45 specialists (who are more liberal graders; I'm primarily an LP specialist) would just say NM. This was my own personal copy, which I always considered to be NM, and the best one I'd ever seen. But last week I traded for two copies which were better (unplayed) so I can't give this the same NM grade I gave them! However, in one respect this one IS better - there is almost none of the minor surface noise (cheap vinyl hiss) that many copies have. I'd playgraded at NM- (that is, about as good as small label 45s can be).
