Hello and welcome to my eBay auction for:
THE HOLLIES - FOR CERTAIN BECAUSE 1966 PMC 7011 1st PRESS MONO PRESSING PARLOPHONE
This is a really enjoyable album. I bought this copy a few years back and it has been housed safely within my collection in a new plastic sleeve and the record itself stored separately ever since. After hearing the CD remaster, I longed for a vinyl copy and managed to seek out this beautiful original 1966 mono pressing. It is by no means mint, so don't expect an archive copy, but it's a beautiful much loved copy nonetheless. This was the first Hollies album to feature all of the tracks written by Allan Clarke, Tony Hicks and Graham Nash.
Side 1: What's Wrong With The Way I Live Pay You Back With Interest Tell Me To My Face Clown Suspicious Look In Your Eyes It's You
Side 2: High Classed Peculiar Situation What Went Wrong Crusader Don't Even Think About Changing Stop! Stop! Stop!
The matrix numbers are XEX 617-1G (side 1) and XEX 618-1G (side 2)
The sleeve is the original EMI gatefold laminated cover, identical to the one used on the Beatles' fourth album 'Beatles For Sale'. Collectors will know that these covers age very quickly due to their design. The front cover fold is only very thin and extremely prone to creasing, scuffing, laminate breaks, becoming mis-shaped and even tearing. The spines of these gatefold covers are known to virtually disintegrate. The inner part of the gatefold is prone to damage as the record is stored inside the gatefold. This particular copy is stunning in comparison. The laminated parts (front and back) are still shiny and the colour is stunning and unfaded. The spine is still well formed with the title fully legible. Just a few creases to the spine (worst crease over the 'o' in 'Hollies'), a little laminate lift down the spine (very common on this type of sleeve) and a slightly scuffed corner at the bottom left of the spine where on the back the laminate has split less than 1cm let the cover down. Front cover is still intact with the rest of the gatefold and has one tiny crease line next to the word 'mono'. The inner of the gatefold is still white, the flipbacks all secure. I am being very picky but it has to be said that this is one of the best sleeves I've seen for this album in a while. It retains all of it's vibrancy and is very clean and presentable.
The beautiful thick slab of vinyl is the usual quality expected of a 1966 Parlophone pressing, retaining its original shine. The album has a beautiful strong mono sound, still very punchy and vibrant. The sonic quality is fantastic. The vinyl itself has many scuff marks when held up to light, these obviously sound on the lp but in most cases the music drowns the surface noise out. The only real issue is a small scratchy click for the first few seconds of 'High Classed' but other than that, there are no pops, loud clicks, scratches, jumps or sticks. Despite the surface noise in places this is still a very presentable copy of the album that has certainly been enjoyed during my ownership. The labels vibrant and clean, just a few light spindle marks under light and finger marks, which will probably clean off. The KT tax code is clear on the side 1 label. The vinyl has not been cleaned so would probably sound better after a suitable clean. The original 1966 EMI advertising sleeve is included which is in excellent condition.
This is a very presentable copy of a great album, the first Hollies album to feature all the songs written by Clarke, Hicks and Nash. Presentable copies of this album don't often turn up at all and to some extent it is even rarer than the 1967 album 'Butterfly'. It has been played and stored with great care and attention from me, but the previous owner obviously played the album a bit. As I mentioned, don't bid if you want an immaculate copy to sit in a drawer and sell in 10 years. If you're a music lover and want a decent rare and very enjoyable solid mono copy, then I'm sure you'll be happy with this copy.
This copy has certainly sat proud in my collection, it's a fantastic album, but I am now offering it to someone else to enjoy. It is worth way more than the starting bid, I certainly paid more, so stick a bid in for a chance to enjoy this wonderful Hollies album.

I will send this record free with Royal Mail 1st class post for free to the UK ONLY. I will send it in a custom mailer with plenty of packing. The record will be removed from the sleeve (not that I've ever stored it in the sleeve anyway) and the sleeve kept in a protective plastic sleeve. For all bidders overseas, I cannot ship to some countries due to unreasonably high postage costs. Please contact me before the auction ends to find out the postage costs for your country and if I can ship there at all.
It would be appreciated that you pay for the item as soon as possible. If the item remains unpaid for seven days without contact, then I will relist the item and regrettably have to contact eBay. If you have any problems with payment, please contact me first.
If you have any questions or queries (such as record details, condition, postage, audio samples etc...) or just want to talk about the record, please feel free to contact me. I'm very approachable and will adhere to solve any problems as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
Finally, happy bidding!
