Rare and sought after Jamaican blank of the classic Studio One single by The Minstrels doing a luxurious version of The Impressions' “People Get Ready” (side A). Produced by Coxsone Dodd.
Flipside is Hamlins “Everyone Got to be There”. Deadwax / matrix markings read: TS Dodd 181 & TS Dodd 182. This is one of the rarest Jamaican releases from the mid 1960s, with even the sought after studio 1 UK issue being 'easier' to find, albeit pricey. There is a reasonable reserve on this but well below the expected sale price. As far as I can see it was 2009 when one of these last sold here.
Stunning group harmony rocksteady with breathtaking vocals and very crisp production. Flip side is nice early reggae group harmony - very rare track in itself due to scarcity of the disc. Both sides show light wear but we're used to slightly lower expectation on JA vinyl.
Condition:
Side A) This is typical JA vinyl, tiny potmarks and slightly rippled effect in manufacturing process now and again - not affecting play. Light scuffs and surface marks all over but not excessively so, again plays very well. Very light crackles throughout typical of a record of this vintage, not distracting. Production is clear and crisp, remarkably high fidelity. VG (by Jamaican vinyl standards).
Side B) Little rougher but still plays well, light background noise throughout due to recurring light scuff, has a 2mm potmark 3/4 of the way through that amazingly doesn't skip - have tried many plays and never jumps. VG- (by Jamaican vinyl standards).
