Description
An original 1963 mono issue of the Beatles Please Please Me, on the rare original black and gold Parlophone label. The matrix numbers are XEX 421-1N/XEX 422-1N. "This was a short-lived first press with black/gold labels, the main pressing with classic Parlophone black & yellow labels was released a couple of months later." This copy has a nice disc but a pretty bad sleeve. I have play tested it and it played very well throughout; the volume of the crackle was minimal and could not be heard over the music very often. There were no loud pops. The only issue was at the very end of the last song on the B side "Twist and Shout" it jumped once. It repeated the same line twice but did not stick any longer, and it happened during the last ten second of the song. There is a small indentation on the disc that caused the jump. Apart from this small indentation none of the scratches on the disc can be felt. There are a lot of visual scratches and some of them are long, but they are faint. The labels are in nice condition apart from where they are scuffed and worn around the holes. The writing is also slightly faded in places. The labels have "Dick James" credited on both sides. There is no damage to the image on the cover but the edges are quite worn. There is old tape on the corners. The corners are scuffed. The spine is torn in the middle and has some creases across it. The back of the cover is quite bad. There are tape stains along all the edges, though the tape has been removed. The bottom edge is torn. There is a address written on the back cover in ink. Two of the corners are also bent and creased. See all 10 photos for details please.
