Description

For sale is a copy of The Beatles first album, Please Please Me.

This is an original UK 1st Pressing produced in 1963 which features the 4th variation of the yellow and black Parlophone labels.

Both the record and sleeve are in great condition and would be a super addition to any collection.

Please see below for further details.

The matrix numbers identify this copy as a first pressing:

·      Side 1: XEX 421-1N & 3 HM mother stampers

·      Side 2: XEX 422-1N & 3 LP mother stampers

This copy comes with the original sleeve and the 4th variation of label. There are several features that can be used to identify this:

·      Front side laminated E. J. Day & Co. flip-back sleeve.

·      Large MONO on the top right-hand corner of the sleeve.

·      The text of the Angus McBean photo credit starts under the ‘G’ of ‘SONGS’ on the front cover.

·      Black labels with yellow Parlophone logo and silver text.

·      ‘Recording first published 1963’ printed over two lines on the label.

·      ‘PMC 1202’ catalogue number.

I try to take pictures which provide a fair representation of the condition of a record and the sleeve. If interested, please read below for a detailed discussion including an audio description.

I use the Goldmine standard as a reference for grading.

Vinyl: VERY GOOD

The vinyl surface retains the original gloss sheen.

The labels are bright and clean and have minimal spindle wear.

There are several surface marks to both sides, some of which are more noticeable than others.

Despite this, the playback is a strong VG+ throughout most tracks. Very clear vocals, punchy bass and a crisp treble.

There are no skips, jump or sticks.

Sleeve: VERY GOOD

The sleeve looks great.

The front is very clean and retains the original bright colours.

The rear is very clean except from an address and ‘note’ (saying “do not steal this or you will have to pay £1 12s”!) written in ink.

The corners are strong, and the spine and edges are distinct.

There are no rips or tears.

Inner Sleeve: Very Good

The original polythene lined ‘protect your records’ Emitex die-cut inner sleeve is included.

It is still very white without any seam splits or rips.

It is quite heavily creased around the center.

Also included in the sale is an audiophile quality inner sleeve which provides the best possible protection for the record.

This is a great copy the Beatles debut album. Although it is not perfect it is full of character which I think is great!

The album is housed within a premium quality polythene outer sleeve.

The vinyl will be packaged separate to the sleeve.

The album will be sent within a padded vinyl record mailer.

For UK shipments I use a Royal Mail insured service.

Similar insured postage will be utilised for international shipments. Please wait for an invoice if successful to ensure accurate postage costs.
