THE BEATLES - WHITE ALBUM - TOP-LOADER DOUBLE LP (MEGA RARE 1968 ORIGINAL UK 1ST PRESSING)
Low Numbered Top-Loader in Great Condition (0048012)
Up for auction here is a great copy of the very rare 1st UK Pressing (1968) of 'The Beatles - White Album'. This is the mono version of the 2 available mixes which is generally considered to be the finest way to hear this masterpiece and is therefore the more sought-after version. This LP is numbered at 0048012 which, when you consider that this album sold in the region of half a million copies in its' first week of sale, makes this one of the first editions purchased in the UK (and to cap it all, it was purchased new by my Dad!!).
The records themselves are in very good condition, a few light surface marks but it played perfectly, bright and clean, the last time that I stoked up the old turntable! The record labels feature the text: 'Sold in the U.K.' and 'mfd. in U.K.' with no mention of EMI anywhere on the labels. The main discs are numbered PMC 7067 (Disc One) and PMC 7068 (Disc Two) and the individual sides are numbered XEX 709-1, XEX 710-1, XEX 711-1 and XEX 712-1 (for sides 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively). The original black inner sleeves are, Disc One: Fair condition with some creasing and tears to the top (opening) edge, around the label cut-out and along one side for approx. 3 inches (where the record edge has worked through); Disc Two: Excellent with minimal disc 'imprint' no creasing and no tears.
The lyric poster is included with some discolouration (not from being displayed) on the lyric side, and some tear on the folds of the poster. There are no pin marks and it has never been hung on a wall. Please note that the portraits are not included in the auction.
The Garrod and Lofthouse International heavyweight laminate sleeve is in excellent condition, there are no signs of writing anywhere on the sleeve, the embossed 'The Beatles' wording is well raised and clear and the printed number ' No 0048012' is bright, crisp and easy to read (just as it was when new). There is some slight wear to the spine through the gatefold sleeve being opened but nothing that you wouldn't expect and there is some minor wear to the top (opening) edge of the sleeve. The inside of the gatefold is clean and secure, with no marks and a lovely flat sheen from the laminate, truly stunning. The outside of the sleeve has the same sheen that only this type of laminate can give and some minor indentations that can only be seen when held the correct way under light, again nothing more than you would expect from an LP fast approaching its' 40th birthday!
This is a great opportunity to own a piece of rock history with a low starting price and a sensible reserve, as stated above, this has been in my family from new, bought by my Dad on release then lent to me about 10 years ago (did he really think he'd get it back??) we're only selling as neither of us have a turntable anymore and both have since purchased the album on CD! ... get bidding!
If you have any questions, please ask and I'll try my best to answer them. Thanks for Looking!
