Beatles Yesterday And Today 2nd State 'Butcher' Pasteover Sleeve
Up for auction is a rare mono 1966 album cover The Beatles Yesterday And Today. This is a second state, unpeeled butcher sleeve in good condition. This sleeve is the holy grail amongst Beatles collectors.
100% genuine and original mono copy trunk cover that was pasted over the original sleeve of the fab four adorned with dismembered dolls, cuts of meat, false teeth. The sleeves were recalled from the few first presses released by capital and some copies had a pasted over cover of The Beatles looking far from happy around a trunk.
The pasteover covers were glued onto the original sleeve and many copies have been ruined over the years by people trying to peel off the pasteover sleeve using crude methods. This example is undisturbed, meaning the original cover beneath is completely preserved.
I have included a picture that clearly shows ringo's dark V-neck sweater under the pasteover sleeve.
Condition:
The front cover is in very good condition with the sleeve still in one piece, with only slight wear to the opening edge. There is some wear to the pasteover sleeve in places as can be seen from the photo's.
The spine has some splitting, also there is a split along the top seam.
If the buyer decided to properly peel the trunk cover off then I am certain the butcher cover underneath would be superb!
There is some slight discolouration in places but nothing at all serious.
So graded very good.
The rear of the sleeve is in good condition. No writing or anything missing. There is the RIAA logo with a number 6 printed which indicates the sleeve was pressed in Scranton. This is informative for anyone attempting to peel the trunk cover as different pressing plants used different based glues to stick on the trunk cover.
There is a fair amount of browning to the rear of the sleeve, probably due to handling. These covers were not laminated and can discolour very easily. However the rear sleeve is overall good.
There are no pen marks or writing anywhere front or back to the sleeve.
This auction is for THE SLEEVE ONLY there is no record. However, an original LP and inner sleeve can be purchased fairly easily and inexpensively on this website.
So there it is. An original butchers 2nd State cover waiting to go to a good home.
