Ok,here goes,my most reluctant sale ever on ebay by a distance. This really doesn't need much of an introdution,but in case you've been living on another planet,this is the ultra rare one of only 2000 pressed copies of the Damned's, Damned Damned Damned album complete with the "misprinted" Eddie and the Hot Rods on the rear of the sleeve.Catalogue number is Stiff Records (SEEZ 1).
This still has the ORIGINAL shrinkwrapping (opened) with the album title AND the erratum sticker on rear.Basically the COMPLETE rarity of this all time punk collectable.The shrinkwrapping is still in excellent condition,and is complete with just one tiny nick to one of the bloodsplatters(as shown),but is still totally intact.How many of these are still with the shrinkwrapping is anyones guess.I'd be surprised if 25% of copies are like this nowadays.The sleeve is in excellent- condition with a couple of creases and accptable wear for it's 32 years.The record itself is in VG+ condition.It does have surface marks that look worse than the record plays,which is excellent,but the record isn't rare at all compared to the sleeve and shrinkwrapping as you well know.
I am including with this auction a letter from Stiff Records explaining to the original owner of this record (who must have complained to Stiff) the reason why there is a picture of Eddie and the Hot Rods on the rear and NOT his beloved Damned. The letter is a perfect copy and NOT THE ORIGINAL.It's just there as an historic artefact and bonus to this wonderful and super rare package. I hope the lucky winning bidder likes it.
The album cover features the four members of the band who have been hit by pies. Brian James recalls "that was organised by this photographer called Peter, Stiff had assigned him to do the thing. They though it was a jolly wheeze to surprise us with a few cream cakes, little knowing that we would relish it, get into to it and enjoy the whole experience". After the photo session, Damned member Captain Sensible noted "...I had more pie on my face than any of the other buggers and on the back of the sleeve I had my back to the picture, so I went down a photo booth and got some pictures, cut one out and said 'put that on there.' So I would have something to show my relatives, because I didn't think we'd be invited to make another album."[6]
Stiff records had another problem where initial copies of the album were printed with a photo of Eddie and the Hot Rods on the back of the album cover, rather than The Damned playing at The Roxy Club.Because of the rarity of this item I will only post via REGISTERED post at 6.00 in the UK and NOT the maximum £4 ebay tell me to charge Registered costs a lot more than £4 they should realise(like they care anyway).If you do have any questions then please feel free to ask,it's not a hassle.
RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM
MINT :
The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed be Mint.
EXCELLENT :
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD :
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
SMALL PRINT : I am first and foremost a collector, and grade strictly as I wish everyone would. Records will be well-packed between cardboard, and sent in record mailers. In the interests of the environment, these will be recycled whenever possible. All records are sent with a certificate of posting, if you wish additional insurance please ask – I cannot be held responsible for missing parcels.
I may use a + or a - to emphasise a grading which may be inbetween a grade. I will never use a mint grading for a 2nd hand/used record for instance. Mint- will be the very highest grade.
