THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE Electric Ladyland. As far as i can tell after doing some research this looks like the rare1969 UK issue of the classic1968 sixteen track double LP, fully laminated gatefold picture sleeve.
LOTS OF DETAIL SO HERE GOES.....
This first issue has a number of differences to even the second Track issue the following year. The sleeve is the UK variant [which Jimi actually disapproved of], featuring a group of naked women, rather than the group photo. It has 'floating' laminate, rather than wraparound, meaning that there is always a small unlaminated section at the opening, top & bottom. Polydor issues were wraparound laminate, with no gap at the edge.
Once again, the inside has the floating laminate with the small gap at the edges. The pictures of Noel & Mitch are smaller than first issues. The text for the tracklisting is centred and in white print, with the Track logo to the centre, Polydor information & Ernest J. Day printing underneath. The tracklisting itself also features a mixture of capitalised & lower case letters at the start of each word, with no apparent consistency, eg. 'Rainy day, dream away' but 'Still Raining, Still Dreaming'.
The first issue Track labels have a slightly different 'rough' texture to the paper. These ones are now smooth but still have the catalogue number repeated in brackets above the bold silver print in smaller inverted numbers. These end with a capital 'A' or 'B' per side, on both disks. This is only found on the first press labels.
The gatefold cover has deep colour tones on the naked ladies with an almost green tinge to the flesh colours, often found on the spine as well. This is the same as the very first sleeve. Inside the gatefold, the Track logo, tracklisting, copyright information and 'Ernest J Day' address are all in white, as found on the second issue sleeve. Above the titles are two pictures of Mitch & Noel. In a very first issue cover they are large sized photos, but all later issues have the modified cover with them reduced to a smaller size. The inside of this sleeve, unlike the outside, follows this design pattern. This too was the format for later Polydor label issues. There appeared to be slight confusion at the pressing plant as the sides were configured in the American style. Designed for your stacking Autochanger deck, the vinyl has Side A backed with Side D & Side B backed with Side C, for an easy flip over to continue.
The matrix numbers are: Side A- 613008A//1 Side B- 613009A//1 Side C- 613009B//1 Side D- 613008B//1 These are machine stamped in the 'dead wax' areas with hand scratched amendments.
The fully laminated gatefold picture sleeve shows a fair degree of light creasing to the laminate from handling & some edge scuffing that is more noticable at the opening as a result of the laminate finishing before the edge. General shelfwear however remains light and it remains acceptable. A much sought after edition of this classic album that remains respectable despite being a lot less than mint at an advantageous price.
For a 50 year old album this is in great nick, not without its faults and signs of use but what do you expect for such a classic album?
