The 2025 b-leg Sonic Mania 2013 arrived with all the subtlety of a flare at a Roses gig—pressed, wonderfully enough, on eye-popping Turquoise that looks like something the Madchester scene would’ve dreamed up after one too many warehouse raves. It’s a bold color choice, but fitting for a recording that sounds this unexpectedly brilliant.
Captured in Japan during the 2013 reunion run, the set is absurdly clean for a bootleg—so crisp you’d swear it was smuggled out of a mixing desk under someone’s jacket. Reni plays with his usual superhuman precision, Squire is in full guitar-god bloom, and Ian Brown even sounds like he’s enjoying himself, which is half the battle.
And then there’s “Fools Gold.” On this recording it’s downright outstanding—stretching, shimmering, and strutting with that lazy-funk swagger only the Roses can pull off. Mani’s bassline loops like it could go on forever, and honestly, you wouldn’t complain if it did.
In all, Sonic Mania 2013 is a fabulous, too-good-to-be-bootleg bootleg—great sound, glorious performance, and pink vinyl that practically winks at you from the shelf. A must for fans, collectors, and anyone who knows that some gold really is fools’ gold.
These new Bootleg Albums are NOT mass factory pressed but they are cut on various colours.
Quite hard to find and in limited numbers, they make a great edition to any Roses Bootleg Collection.
