Incredibly rare original Verve Records promotional copy of The Velvet Underground’s 2nd studio album “White Light / White Heat”. The commercial copies of this album appeared in the retail on February 26, 1968. The currently listed “Disc Jockey Record” yellow label promotional copy was pressed and shipped to radio stations several months before the album’s official release date. Original 1st print Andy Warhol cover which under a certain angle shows the motorcyclist tattoo of a skull. The tattoo belonged to Joe Spencer who played the lead role of the hustler in a motorcycle gang in Warhol’s 1967 film “Bike Boy”. The image of the tattoo present on the black-on-black cover was selected from one of the film’s negatives by Lou Reed and enlarged. Warhol is indicated in the credits under “Cover Concept”. Original 1st print cover indicating “Lead Guitar: Lou Reed” as oppose to just “Guitar” on the back cover. The second misprint indicates the “Here She Comes Now” track as “There She Comes Now”. East Coast yellow / black promotional version “DISC JOCKEY RECORD NOT FOR SALE” labels with the T-shape Verve Records logo, “V-5046” Mono catalog number and 1.25” pressing ring. Dedicated Mono mix pre-release promotional MGM Records, Bloomingfield, New Jersey plant pressing with the block-looking “S” symbol engraved in the runout grooves with the full 1st matrix numbers being as follows: Side 1 - V5046 SIDE 1 MG1258 22 BLOCK-LOOKING S; Side 2 - V5046 SIDE 2MG1259 11 BLOCK-LOOKING S. This promotional copy comes with the original Verve Records inner sleeve.

The cover remaining in the original factory shrink wrap is in marvelous condition and graded as Near Mint, practically Mint Minus. We graded the vinyl as somewhere between Strong Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus. It retains its beautiful factory gloss only having a few very light non-feelable surface hairlines as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve that don't affect the playback. The saturated yellow labels are very clean and in Near Mint Minus condition, scuff- and wear-free, only having a couple of very light spindle marks on Side 1 which can only be seen under a strong light. The vinyl plays amazing with just some very light occasional static which most likely could get reduced or go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. The original Verve Records inner sleeve is in Near Mint condition and doesn't have any splits or tears.
