Description

An original 1st press of 'CAF' on the UK Island label. Matrix 3/4. Stamped - 'Sterling'. Stampers 1-AR/1-RL. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in the original zippo lighter styled cover. Please note that the original fastener at the hinge has been replaced with a new generic paper fastener. But I'm pleased to report that the flip-top is in good condition and moves well on the hinge/fastener without issue. The cover is printed by Robor as you would expect to find on a true original copy.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-)*with deviation. The vinyl looks to have only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of marks either side - one is feelable and does cause issue..details follow. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one significant deviation. Pressing quality is excellent and I'm pleased to report that the audio delivered by this early Island copy is fantastic. For the most part audio is excellent and the reggae just flows with great purity. We did, however, encounter a couple of issues...Firstly, a minor issue in 'Stir It Up' which has, unsurprisingly, seen more use than the rest of the LP. Do expect some low-level static in this track - it plays well just not quite as pure as the rest of the LP. Then secondly, there's the deviation in 'Rock It Baby' - this is more noticeable so make sure you are happy with this before purchasing. A mark across the first ten to twelve revolutions causes a tick sound once per revolution. A couple of these actually qualify as pops. I have thoroughly tested the mark and the needle plays through fine [guaranteed]. But please do weigh this aberration up in the round and against what is a very sought after and hard to find record. THINK before you click BUY!
Cover (Vg+) In lovely condition and does not seem to have seen excessive use as many do by now. A relatively clean front and back with a couple of creases and one heavy one in the bottom right corner. The hinge mechanism has been replaced with a paper fastener and this appears to be working absolutely fine. Whilst the hinge does show some wear in the photos please rest assured that the card around the hole is still stiff and fully able to with stand the hinge movement without problem. The hidden top of the lighter is all in excellent condition without tearing, marking, or creasing. There's a reasonable amount of edge wear as you'd expect on this title, but nothing heavy enough to wear through. The album title on the upper spine is still mostly readable, but showing light wear. Overall the cover retains very decent rigidity and is in above average condition.
