Description
This is a rare boxed set recording from The Who. It is a set of 4 45 rpm records which was issued in 1969 only to radio stations. The front of the box states " Prepared Exclusively for Radio Station Programming" .The records are Decca promo numbers 734610, 734611, 734612 and 734613. Each record contains single songs from their rock opera " Tommy ". Side 1 - Amazing Journey , Side 2 - The Acid Queen, Side 3 - Go To The Mirror Boy, Side 4 - Tommy Can You Hear Me, Side 5 - Smash The Mirror , Side 6 - Sensation , Side 7 - Sally Simpson , Side 8 I'm Free . I believe the records have never been played. They are mint for the most part except for a few minor flaws. Side 1 has a scratch which would affect the play and there is a very tiny crease on both sides of the label. Sides 3 and 4 are absolutely MINT. Sides 5 and 6 are absolutely MINT. Side 7 has a tiny crease on the label and side 8 has a tiny spot with some little scatches which would affect play slightly. I have never played the records. The set also comes with an insert that resembles the front cover. It lists all 8 songs and has a description of each song as it relates to the opera. The front of the box has a few smudges, mainly beacuse it is gold and hard to keep perfectly clean. It is also very nicely autographed by the late John Entwistle in black sharpie. John signed this for me after a concert in Detroit at The Palladium in 1996. I am including a picture I took of him signing it after the concert. The picture is shown below. Overall, this is a very rare item in exteremely nice condition. I doubt there is another set out there in nicer condition and surely not one that is autographed by John Entwistle. This item will be carefully packaged and shipped by priority mail. If the auction winner is outside of the U.S. , I will give a shipping quote based on the destination after the auction is over.
