Description

Mega rare original BBC Transcription service disc and original cue sheet!

Top of the Pops - 213 - week 52. 1968. duration :42,30".

Top of the Pops, was a 1-hour new music program hosted weekly by Brian Matthew, and featured selections from recording sessions at BBC studios assembled for syndication/export outside the UK. Top of the Pops was also the name of a well-known BBC TV series, but there is no connection between the radio show and the TV show. Over the years this has caused much confusion to collectors of audio tapes who have assumed tapes credited to Top of the Pops were performances from the TV program.
The syndicated radio series began late in 1964 and billed itself as “featuring live London performances of Britain’s top sounds.” The standardized format of the show was to feature 4-5 different artists doing 3 songs each, occasionally with a brief interview segment included.

Issue 213 was billed as "Highlights of 68"and features 14 artists performing one song each and Brian Matthew introducing the show + a trailer to end.

Artists and tracks are as follows:

The TREMELOES - My Little Lady.

The MOODY BLUES - Voices in the Sky.

The SMALL FACES - Lazy Sunday.

MARY HOPKIN - Those were the Days.

MANFRED MANN - My Name is Jack.

DONOVAN - Lalena.

CREAM - Swlabr.

CLIFF RICHARD - All my Love.

BRIAN AUGER TRINITY with JULIE DRISCOLL - This Wheels on Fire.

The BEE GEES - Words.

HERMANS HERMITS - Sunshine Girl.

The HOLLIES - Listen to Me.

The CRAZY WORLD of ARTHUR BROWN - Fire.

TOM JONES - Im Coming Home.

What a fantastic line up and  selection of POP,PSYCH,FOLK,PROG,and ROCK from 1968!

This is an original pressing with matrix numbers: BBC 12FPM 123632 A (side 1) and BBC 12FPM 123633.

The expiry date for the show is listed as 28-6-69 ( the programme was normally first aired 6-7 months prior to this date)

I dont know how many of each disc were pressed but very few ever appear for sale!!!

The two page continuity sheet shows signs of its age and  light wear - small creases /folds to the corners and small area of discolouring around the staple (which has rusted) Please see photo.

The standard BBC Programme yellow cover with red lettering is a bit grubbie with ring wear and a label (with the number 126 written on)top left, and small pen mark (207) top centre. See photo.

The disc plays Excellent throughout and the labels (both sides) are clean,no visible spindle marks,no writting!

The disc visually would grade as VG,but plays Excellent!

I have not cleaned the record and have tried to point out any flaws as i see them, but feel free to request further photos/details.

This item is mega rare but not mint!

Paypal prefered.
