Description
This is a set of four 16 inch 33 1/3 rpm phonograph records, commonly called radio transcriptions. These were used to broadcast radio shows before the advent of the microgroove LP. These are acetates recorded on October 21st, 1939. Artist is legendary conductor Arturo Toscanini with pieces by Prokofiev, Wagner and Brahms. All four discs are recorded on both sides, so I'm guessing this is a complete broadcast. Sound quality is quite good; these were most likely cut in the studio and not off the air. There is dirt and possibly mildew covering parts of each disc; it will probably clean off, but I can't guarantee it. Even as they are, they play clearly with occasional surface noise, There is no noticeable groove wear. A great piece of original old time radio memorabilia!
