Description
URIAH HEEP 1970 Original U.S. Mercury white label promo gatefold debut LP. ""Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble" w/different cover. Stereo SR-61294. M-/M
The debut album from UK organ driven prog rock featuring keyboardist Ken Hensley & David Byron on lead vocals. They were on Vertigo in England & this album was issued with a completely different cover & title. Named after a character in "David Copperfield", Uriah Heep had started life as Spice but changed their name just prior to this album's release. They were influenced by Vanilla Fudge & Deep Purple, but soon developed a sound of their own as witnessed by "Gypsy" & the 7 other tracks contained here. In addition to the group members already mentioned, Mick Box played lead guitar, Paul Newton played bass & 3 different drummers beat the skins. Interestingly, "Bird Of Prey" (one of the strongest tracks on the LP) did not come out in England until their second album "Salisbury" was released the following year. "Lucy Blues" was dropped from the American pressings. This is an original white label copy LP with "Promotional Copy- Not For Sale" printed along the bottom on both sides of the label.
8 tracks- Gypsy, Walking In Your Shadows, Come Away Melinda, Bird Of Prey, Dreammare, Real Turned On, I'll Keep On Trying & Wake Up.
Gatefold cover has slight wear on the corners & the top & bottom edges. It has no writing or split seams & very nearly rates MINT, but we graded it as near MINT. The record has no scratches or scuffs & plays perfectly. Very few spins on this record The white label Mercury labels denote that it is an original 1970 promo pressing. Record is rated MINT.
