ORIGINAL UK CHARISMA (CAS 1116) FIRST PRESSING (April 1976) OF VAN DER GRAAF'S "Still Life" LP - IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION (possibly played just two/three times) AND DELIVERING PRACTICALLY FLAWLESS AUDIO THROUGHOUT (ON MY SYSTEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME!) - FANTASTIC COPY OF THIS FIRST PRESSING WHICH IS INCREDIBLY HARD TO FIND IN DECENT PLAYING CONDITION

FIRST PRESS MATRIX: CAS 1116 A//1 and: CAS 1116 B//1
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL SINGLE MATT SLEEVE WITH BACK PRINTED LYRICS "Printed in England by James Upton Ltd. England"
AND COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL PLAIN WHITE INNER SLEEVE

VDGG's second step on the mid-'70s comeback trail saw Peter Hammill attempting to meld the introspective and the cosmic throughout, though this did not stop him from taking a dead run at a grandiose concept or two -- the consequences of immortality on the title track, and the grand fate of humanity on the epic "Childlike Faith in Childhood's End."
The theme of humane cooperation informs the opening "Pilgrims," while "La Rossa" is an epic tale of desire fulfilled (a story that would be concluded on Hammill's solo album, Over).
The true highlight, however, is the beautiful, pensive "My Room (Waiting for Wonderland)," with its echoes of imagination and loss. Hammill did not achieve such a level of painful beauty again until "This Side of the Looking Glass" on his devastating 'Over' LP

LABELS: Clean, bright and fresh labels with hardly any signs of use - two/three light spindles, tops. The side one label has a circular mark (please see close-up photos) - the remnants of the original owners label but this has caused no damage just left a light mark - EX/NM
?VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - there are some wispy light hairlines but these have no audio consequence - this copy has seen little play and been very carefully handled - NEAR MINT
VINYL Audio: Gorgeous audio reproduction on this first pressing (even thought the cut is fairly quiet) with a crystal clear and detailed sound - deep, rich and beautifully warm. On careful play at a very, very loud volume (due to the quiet cut and it's always a great pleasure to revisit this one) there are no scratches, no surface noise and just the occasional, intermittent light 'tick' (nothing intrusive and only of the kind commonly found on even brand new vinyl - and I did play-grade at a VERY loud volume) otherwise, the whole LP plays beautifully from start to finish with no groove-wear, no distortion, sounds sensational and is critically graded EXCELLENT++ for audio - great copy and very hard to find audio this clean, playing this well (especially on high-end audio systems) - certainly one of the finest I have heard in a long, long time (and similar to 'World Record" I don't think the audio comes much better - I certainly haven't heard one)
?SLEEVE: The untreated matt sleeve is clean and unmarked with just a little wear to the top and bottom edges and all text on the spine, clear and bold and there is none of the common heavy ring so often found on this sleeve. Overall, a very, very fine example indeed - a strong EXCELLENT
