Description

The Ultra Rare BEATLES USA WHITE ALBUM SWBO-101 COMPRESSED VERSION From 1968 - This Rare LP was supposed to be destroyed and Never Released to the Public !!!

Offered is the ultra rare Compressed USA First Edition Version of The Beatles White Album on Apple Records SWBO-101!!  This LP was never supposed to be released to the public, or anyone!!!  George Harrison asked Capitol Records in late 1968 to destroy all the masters that were created to date!    This is one of the very few copies that was pressed by Capitol Records Scranton PA Factory in 1968!!!    This record is a First Issue White Album.   The jacket has "The Beatles" in raised letters with serial number A1386878 stamped on the front cover.   Since Scranton began using Serial Numbers starting at 1380000, this is definitely one of the first LPs issued!!   This LP jacket has a Queens-Litho manufactured cover.

The album jacket itself is in Very Good condition.  The front cover is quite clean with good shine!   But there are a few flaws:  2 neatly repaired 5" seam splits on top.   The bottom seams look good with just a 1" section of the middle of one seam with wear.   There are a few yellow tape marks on the jacket including one inside where someone put white-out on a seam split on the middle seam of the gatefold.  The bottom edge of the spine has a yellowed tape mark.  The record labels contain all 7 different first issue errors too!   The labels are all in Excellent condition with some spindle marks on each.  The album includes the 4 8x10 color photos of The Beatles in VG to Excellent condition.  The original poster is included but has yellowed tape marks and splits repaired with clear tape so it's only Good condition.  The value here is in the records.   Side 1 looks VG condition.   Side 2 looks VG to VG+ condition.   Side 3 looks VG condition.   Side 4 looks VG to VG+.   We tend to be conservative on our grading so there won't be any surprises when our customers receive their items!   Please Note: we visually grade our records however we did play this LP all the way through and there was 1 quick short skip on Dear Prudence using our 1.5gram tracking phonograph arm.    The master numbers on this LP are stamped in the deadwax on each side as follows: Side 1: SWBO-1-101-B29
Side 2: SWBO-2-101-B28 (the "B" looks like it was originally an "A" then changed to a "B")
Side 3: SWBO-3-101-A28
Side 4: SWBO-4-101-B29 Each of the sides are shown in our pictures.    This is a Scranton PA issued LP.   Each of the 4 sides also have the IAM in a triangle stamped in the deadwax.    Good Luck and Hopefully Someone will get this Very Rare LP for their Beatles Collection!!!
UPDATE: this is what we have found on the web plus Bruce Spizer's books have several paragraphs on this exact subject. We are convinced there are many differences throughout the entire album! After some reading on the web we found a lot of information pointing out several noticeable differences:  on Why Don't We Do It In The Road? and then Cry Baby Cry were 2 songs that had noticeable differences. On Cry Baby Cry, there is a major noticeable drop of all instruments including John's voice of the left channel right after the line "Put On Specially By The Children For A Lark" with only Paul's bass remaining. I played that song and it was very noticeable; much worse than the final release.

'Bruce Spizer had 3 paragraphs about this special compressed version of The White Album on his follow up to "The Beatles on Apple Records" book which he placed as an addendum in his "The Beatles Swan Song" book. He stated that George did indeed supervise the re-mastering and it took place at Sound Recorders Studio around the corner from the Capitol Tower and that Capitol scrapped the original 33 sets of laquers in October 1968. But for some reason the Scranton factory released some of these initial 33 laquers!!! The new lacquers were recut with E/Q settings with Stereo Limiter Equipment now set to zero. He stated the differences were evident with a close listen at the low & high parts of songs are less dynamic on these early versions. He showed several digital wave comparison charts of one particular song, Why Don't We Do It In The Road? and that clearly showed differences in the song! He stated there is visible evidence of this compression in all the songs on the album! Buy his books and you can educate yourself on this special LP!   Perry Cox says the 2 better songs to hear the "compression" on are HELTER SKELTER and LONG, LONG, LONG due to the extreme rise and fall of the highs and lows.   Thank you for your interest!!!
