Description

The Velvet Underground & Nico V-5008 A rare original
made even rarer by its mono mix made even rarer with the original sleeve made even rarer with a full banana still stuck to the front

This is a chance to get your hands on an amazing example of this truly grail find.  This is a 100% original Verve deep groove mono pressing made right here in the United States in 1967, complete with the back cover photo that fully depicts Eric Emerson's torso projected onto the band.

THE SLEEVE This is a sharp copy of the original sleeve.  I rated it VG+/EX according to Goldmine standards with no rips or writing.  It shows some signs of age with slight yellowing that is VERY difficult to find without. I've seen brighter white examples of this sleeve but usually at the 4 figure mark. It has areas where the sleeve is slightly darkened presumably from sitting next to another album on the shelf.  Only the most minor of edge bumps or corner wear.  No seam splits top or bottom, inside or out.  Overall, this is a truly nice sleeve.
The banana is bright yellow and fully complete, sitting nice and high on the sleeve as is the case for these original monos.  It shows the break at the base of the stem that is often seen but is not torn or separated at all from the sleeve.  No chunks, rips, tears, or any showing of the pink peeled banana that lay underneath.
The gatefold has only minor soiling that is consistent with the front cover, no major issues or spots to address.  Slick is still pasted on solid, all photos bright and text complete.
The spine is sharp and is devoid of any catspining or chipping.  Just a solid rectangle proudly stating the album, Warhol, and Verve Records.  All text is still clearly printed and wear-free.  The opening on the other side has some bumps as shown in the picture, but is well within what it to be expected on this now 50 year old album.
Back cover shows only that same rubbing: down at the bottom where the record sat and up top.  Emerson's weird face still clear to make out.
THE RECORD The condition of this record is visually a strong VG+/EX.  The labels are near perfect, I see only one spindle mark and it is on Side A, nothing egregious. The label to Side B is about flawless. The vinyl is very high gloss with a very nice rainbow effect still very much present.  Shows a few thin marks on Side B which I tried to bring out for that close up photo but it was difficult.  2 or 3 very thin marks on Side A.
I will ship this record with the great care it deserves, double-boxed and cardboard stiffened.  I have done my best to include any flaws I see and be up front about them.  If you would like more photos or close-ups of anything in particular, just ask.
Any other questions at all please contact me and I will get back to you.  I have been collecting records for many years and am finally starting to part with some of my dearly held collection.

Thank you for looking!
