Description
Velvet Underground and Nico
Verve V6-5008 Stereo
This is the original release with only Andy Warhol's signature on the front cover, not the band name.
This classic album is in Very Good condition, both the record and the sleeve.
The banana sticker is intact but has been torn all the way across the stem about two inches from the top. Two pieces of scotch tape were placed on the stem to hold it together but they seem unnecessary as the top part of the sticker is sticking firmly to the album cover. The tip of the stem has multiple creases.
The front and back covers have wear with partial rings and the back cover has some light scratches on the left side (visible in photo).
The torso picture of actor Eric Emerson on the back cover is untouched (see photo), meaning this record was bought before the lawsuit and subsequent recall of all copies. (This was done in order to place a black sticker over his picture to avoid paying him royalties).
The gatefold is clean and unblemished (see photo). There are no tears, edge abrasions, or seam splits on this sleeve.
The original Verve photo sleeve is intact and in excellent condition. One side of the paper sleeve has the typical corner creases where it was inserted into the album sleeve.
The record is very glossy and unworn. There is a visible 1/2" scratch on "Heroin" but it did not click or make any noise when I played through it (for the first time in 20 years).
There is some slight surface noise but I don't know if cleaning the record and using a high end turntable/cartridge would fix that. The record looks unplayed and almost new, but I bought it used and played it a few times 20 years ago.
This is a real piece of rock 'n' roll history.
