1969 promotional Box Set ( US Decca )
what we have here is a plain black box ( 7" size ) with a gold metallic label on the cover reading: "Decca Records Presents - Excerpts from Tommy, a two record rock opera by The Who - Prepared exclusively for radio station programming". Inside the box is a fold-out gold-metallic leaflet which inside describes the 8 music tracks as they pertain to the Tommy story, basically a miniature recap of the whole rock opera. The discs: [ Disc# 734610 ] Side 1: Amazing Journey 3:50 - Side 2: The Acid Queen 3:33 [ Disc# 734611 ] Side 3: Go To The Mirror Boy 3:46 - Side 4: Tommy Can You Hear Me 1:34 [ Disc# 734612 ] Side 5: Smash The Mirror 1:34 - Side 6:Sensation 2:24 [ Disc# 734613 ] Side 7: Sally Simpson 4:10 - Side 8: I'm Free. All four discs are with gold metallic label with same logo as on cover and inscribed is: "from Decca album Dxsw 7205 Tommy - vocal with instrumental accompaniment - Not for Sale" and of course the other stuff, The Who, song title, time, composer, produced by Kit Lambert, executive producer Chris Stamp, and Reg.U.S.Pat.Off.Marca Registrada Mfr'd by Decca Records a Div. of Mca.Inc.,New York U.S.A. I have outfitted each disc with a poly-lined inner sleeve to keep it in the virgin condition I received it in 30 years ago. The outer cover on the box has some blackish discoloration/ smudging ( see picture ) - must be age / i.e. 36 years old ! There are the usual vinyl imperfections, as with most new records, minor indents and ever so slight paper scuffs visible in the right light at a certain angle, but the vinyl has that new lustre throughout and plays perfectly - the few ( two ) times I've played them just to ensure no audible defects are present.
This is an awesome / unique / collectable / version of a monumental classic: Tommy -the first Rock Opera ! by the WHO
