Description
The Jazz Scene is a special limited edition produced by Norman Granz, who was the founder of Jazz at the Philharmonic.This original Mercury release from 1949 consists of six 12" 78 rpm records and only 5000 were released. This album is numbered( #3014) and signed by Granz.There are 29 classic black & white photos and 2 printed on the front and back covers.It includes a double page ink drawing by David Stone Martin, which is in very good condition but does have a 1" tear in the lower right corner.
The heavy duty multi-ring cover shows some wear( it is 55 years old) but it is real nice and I give it a VG+. The flip over sleeves for the records are in great shape. The pictures are in great shape but the last 26 have bends in the lower right corners from turning the pages but there are no tears. If not for the bends, the pictures are all VG++ to M-.
I believe that the records are in fantastic shape considering their age.They are shiny and smooth. I do not have a 78 speed on my turntable but I will visually describe each one. Each disc has a separate title page . I will list what is on the page and describe the record.
1-The Duke Ellington Sides-VG+ to VG++
2-The Neal Hefti Sides- VG++
3-The Lester Young/ Coleman Hawkins Sides-VG++
4-The Ralph Burns/ George Sides -VG++ to M-
5-The Charlie Parker/ Willie Smith Sides- VG++ to M-
6-The Machito Sides( no print) VG++ to M-
I do not normally deal in 78s but, from those that I have seen, these are in exceptional shape.This a dream copy for anyone seriously interested in ownig it.It is a large and heavy item-over 7 pounds. Overseas buyers especially should keep this in mind .I do not know what else to list. Please let me know if you have any questions. The buyer of this beauty will definitely not be disappointed.
