Description
This is a very nice 180g stereo copy of Kirsten Flagstad (Sieglinde), Set Svanholm (Siegmund), Arnold van Mill (Hunding) with Hans Knappertsbusch and the Vienna Philharmonic performing Act 1 of Wagner’s Die Walküre as issued by King Super Analogue Records (catalogue number K33C-70012/3) and was made in Japan in 1987. Side 4 contains “Dawn and Siegfried’s Rhine Journey” and “Siegfried’s Funeral Music” from Götterdämerung performed by Knappertsbusch and the Vienna Philharmonic. The recording was originally issued by London Records in 1957 but was recorded in 1956 (Götterdämmerung) and 1957 (Die Walküre). The record is from my personal collection and was initially cleaned on a VPI record vacuum and treated with Last Record preservative. It was re-cleaned with an Audio Desk Ultra-sonic record cleaner and demagnetized.
The record was recently play graded using a Lyra Kleos on a VPI Classic IV turntable. The record is in very good condition as follows:
- Side 1 – no scuffs or scratches and plays with 11 light ticks over the side;
- Side 2 – There is a ½” light diagonal scratch which results in about 10 light ticks at the beginning of the record and 3 additional over the rest of the side;
- Side 3 - no scuffs or scratches and plays with 7 light ticks over the side;
- Side 4 – has a very light scratch at the beginning of the side which results in about 10 light ticks at the beginning and 11 additional light ticks over the remainder of the side.
