Description

Artist & Title: Yes – Yessongs

Very rare Genuine MINT 1973 UK FIRST PRESSING 15-track triple LP, housed in the classic Roger Dean wide-spine, four-leaf, gatefold picture sleeve with large 12-page photo booklet. The definitive live Yes album and arguably one of their best records from either stage or studio, featuring And You And I, Yours Is No Disgrace, Close To The Edge and a blistering version of Heart Of The Sunrise showing the band truly on fire.
The records look and sound like the day they were made and the cover, booklet and special Yes logo inner sleeves are all in Excellent Condition with only the lightest shelf-wear and no visible ring-wear. See pics. A very nice collector’s copy of this momentous live prog-rock classic.
Highly desirable for its 1/1/1/1 first pressing matrices and Mint condition vinyl, and increasingly difficult to find in good condition, this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this extreme rarity to your collection at an extremely advantageous price.

This seminal progressive-rock LP from Yes at their creative peak is hardly ever offered for sale in this condition.

“As far as I am concerned, this live album from the Fragile and Close to the Edge tours is by far the most incredible display of virtuosity displayed on a live prog album – period.”

This is the extremely rare real thing: a genuine Mint 1973 UK first pressing. The records are in ‘as new’ condition and the cover, insert and inner sleeves are all in Excellent condition. All items are free from any major defects. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1973, not reprints or replacements. The LPs are the original 1973 UK stereo LPs, which were only played once or twice on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.

“The rhythms of Yes' songs are often very complex, and way beyond the capacity of most rock bands. This stuff is light-years beyond the old 'three-chord' rock and roll.”

Yessongs is the first live album from the English progressive rock band Yes, released on Atlantic Records. The album is formed of recordings from their supporting world tours for their studio albums, Fragile and Close to the Edge, between February and December 1972. A concert film of the same name was released in 1975 that documents the band's performances at London's Rainbow Theatre on 15 and 16 December 1972.
Yessongs was released on 18 May 1973 as a triple vinyl set. It reached number 7 on the UK Albums Chart and number 12 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. The album was certified gold in 1973 and platinum in 1998 by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The Fragile tour tracks "Long Distance Runaround/The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)" and "Perpetual Change" are the only tracks on the album to feature Yes's original drummer, Bill Bruford, who left the group after recording Close to the Edge. For that album's tour, Yes were joined by drummer Alan White, who had only days to learn the material. White was only three years into his career as a session drummer, but had already worked with such acts as The Plastic Ono Band and Joe Cocker.

This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this rare piece of music history in this condition.

“One of the best albums ever produced in my opinion. Truly Excellent! The organ by Rick Wakeman in Excerpts from ‘The Six Wives’ is superb and a classic!”

One of Yes’ trademarks has always been an ability to re-create their often densely layered sound in concert. They effortlessly pull off the tricky chord progressions and changes in time signatures of "Siberian Khatru" and a sublime "Heart of the Sunrise," which unquestionably bests the dexterity of its carefully crafted studio counterpart. Both Howe and Squire's respective solos during "The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)" are highlights as they give the entire unit an opportunity to show off their capacity for dramatic dynamics. The remainder of Yessongs is similarly strong, particularly the note-perfect "Close to the Edge," and the inspired concluding instrumental jam during "Starship Trooper."
