Description
Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band is the debut solo studio album by Japanese artist and musician Yoko Ono, released on Apple Records in December 1970 alongside her husband's album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. Ono's album features her vocal improvisations against backing by the Plastic Ono Band (consisting of John Lennon on guitar, Ringo Starr on drums, and Klaus Voormann on bass), with the exception of the track "AOS", which is backed by the Ornette Coleman Quartet. [NOTE: Per Bruce Spizer's 2005 book, The Beatles Solo on Apple Records, that's George Harrison playing sitar on the cut "Greenfield Morning I Pushed an Empty Baby Carriage All Over the City".]
In the United States, the album peaked at number 182 on the Billboard Top LPs chart. It received negative criticism upon release, with the exception of supportive reviews by Billboard and critic Lester Bangs of Rolling Stone. Despite its lack of commercial success, it has been depicted as an influential recording for a variety of subsequent musicians.
THIS COPY is a 1st Scranton pressing (Variant 3, see Notes, below) from 1970. some marks may be seen on the vinyl, but per a test listen, none that affect playback. The vinyl is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition. The original cover has light ringwear, the back pasted-on paper is a bit wavy, and there is a small stain by little Yoko's left eye. Other than these minor flaws, the original cover is still bright. It is in Very Good [VG] condition. The original inner sleeve with some wrinkles and about a 1 inch split on the bottom seam, is also in Very Good [VG] condition.
Notes
Yoko's counterpart to John's POB LP, with the same sleeve photo (only John and Yoko have switched positions) and a child photo of Yoko on the back.
All tracks by The Plastic Ono Band except "AOS", which is a rehearsal tape for a show at Albert Hall with Ornette Coleman in February 1968.
LP Credits are printed on the inner sleeve.
