Description
Here, in nice first generation in-studio sound (not an aircheck) is the complete CBS “Young Man With A Band” Program from November 17, 1939. It features Raymond Scott’s Quintet and “New Orchestra”. The announcer’s Dan Seymour. The set is comprised of four double sided 12” diameter lateral cut outside start acetates. Some of the sides have incipient frosting. There’s no significant visual wear let alone mutilation from playback on old abusive pickups or what would be worse, from steel needles. 7 of the 8 sides have NOS 1950s adhesive labels that I applied circa 1970 when I acquired the disks.
The selections include: “The Peanut Vendor”; “The Girl With The Light Blue Hair”; “The Life Of Raymond Scott”; “A Typical Quintet Rehearsal” (contains parts of War Dance For Wooden Indians); “A Boyscout In Switzerland”; “Just A Gigolo”; and an amateur singer randomly chosen from, the audience performing “Get Happy” with the Band. It’s absolutely complete from sign on to sign off and includes commercials by Seymour for Columbia, Brunswick, and Vocalion records
Before making the three samples, all I did was to use an old Cecil Watts ‘Parastat’ brush before applying the stylus. These MP3s are 48Khz VBR. The tracking was with a 3 mil conical stylus in two channel, and mixed to mono, nulling out the vertical vector. The preamplification is linear, with RIAA eq. plus a slight low end rolloff, both eqs. applied afterwards. No active or passive filtering or noise suppression has been applied.
These disks are being offered as-is, with no returns accepted. Each disk is in a fresh old stock plastic sleeve. They will be packed amongst multiple sheets of cardboard that will properly protect them. Based upon an uninsured priority mailing that I did earlier this week (of one 16” disk in a package about 1” thick…NYC to Oregon….cost $17.45) I’m assuming that also via Priority but insured, this could cost $25.00. NO PACKING FEE: I will only charge for the actual postal or UPS or Fed Ex (buyer’s choice) insurance is mandatory. Payment only via Paypal. Over payments of shipping fees refunded via PayPal.

eBay has an unrealistic an absurd rule about calculating shipping costs of disk .records. It is evidently based on the sophomoric assumption that they’re all alike, such as conventional LPs and 45s. My recent experience shipping a pair of these packed in a manner that I consider to be adequately protected demonstrates that the ebay calculationsare idiotic. Therefore I will not comply with the eBay shipping costs. I will use the media class offered by the USPS if you stipulate that I do so. I DO NOT MARK UP SHIPPING COSTS!
