    The missing LPs?           Up for auction is this excellent plus condition, warehouse stock , 10"  33rpm Microgroove record, "All Time Greats By Kate Smith", on silver-on-black National Records #NLP 3002 from about 1951.   This is a 10" long-playing Microgroove record purchased in a group from an antiques dealer in Stewartsville, New Jersey, a small town neighboring Phillipsburg, the headquarters of National Records, who said they were obtained from the National warehouse.   This is one of three Kate Smith 10" LPs on National (#s 3001, 3002 & 3003), none of which are listed in any discographies or sales.  Perhaps they were never distributed as the company ended in early 1951.    Smith also recorded three 78rpm singles for National (#9138, 9139 & 9140) which were issued in late November 1950. The two sides of 9138, "Ave Maria" b/w "The Lord's Prayer", are the only titles to be on either of the three LPs, appearing on NLP#3002.   Smith sang "Ave Maria" on her TV show in 1950.    Only one copy of this 78 has been listed on the internet for sale and was from the UK.   Smith's last release before these discs was on M-G-M Records in 1949. No cardboard cover or picture sleeve, comes in plain paper sleeve.

New York, Dec. 2 – National Records this week signed Kate Smith to an exclusive long-term contract, according to National chief Al Green. The warbler’s first release under the National label will be Little Bitty Baby backed by The Same Lord, and Ave Maria backed by The Lord’s Prayer. Miss Smith was last pacted to MGM Records.

National Records was a record label that was started in New York City by Albert Green in 1945 and lasted until early 1951.

Big Joe Turner was signed at the beginning and remained until 1947. Billy Eckstine was also a big seller for the label as were The Ravens. Eileen Barton had a hit with "If I Knew You Were Comin' I'd've Baked a Cake", which was No. 1 for 10 weeks. Working as A&R men were Lee Magid, Bob Shad, Jesse Stone and Herb Abramson. Abramson went to Jubilee and then co-founded Atlantic with Ahmet Ertegün. From the beginning Dick Thomas was their foremost country and western artist, best remembered for his "Sioux City Sue" (1945).

In 1951 National ceased recording and Mercury bought the label. Running Mercury at that time was Irving Green, Albert's son. National's masters were owned by Savoy, which later reissued many of them.
