Description
Historic and oh-so-rare. You are bidding on a rare CBC - Canadian Broadcasting Corporation - Radio Canada - 12" acetate which is essentially a one-off or very limited record pressing on a metal disc covered with a coating of acetone and playable on one side. This particular 12" CBC acetate is: "1st Radio Broadcast" of the lunar echo, 1958 CBC 12" acetate recording of Prof A C B Lovell's historic Lunar Echo. Gorgeous label is hand-written. Dated: Dec 1 / 58, making this 49 years old. You hear the actual voice of Professor A. C. B. Lovell as he says "Hello" three times into a radio telescope and a couple of seconds later you hear his voice as it bounced off the moon. Lovell was a pioneer in Radio Astronomy. Label is large at over 4 1/2" wide complete with old CBC Radio Canada logo. There is a piece of white tape over the label: "#2615 LUNAR ECHO". Running time is approx. 48 seconds and plays at 78 RPM. Label is quite clean, record surface show some signs of wear. Plays from the inside to the outer edge. Sound quality is good with some hiss and crackles, which is to be expected. A rare collectible item and one you won't readily find. This is a museum quality piece.
