We go to estate sales regularly and come across a wide array of unique and rare items. We add to our growing online inventory daily. We pick up new items from all over the world and all over the US. We purchased a large album collection from a former DJ for a local Atlanta area radio station, WBLJ in Dalton, GA, back in the 1950s-1970s awhile back. We've picked up several other collections over the years as well. Quite a few of the albums are promotional albums and cover several different genres of music from classical to jazz to pop to folk to blues to rock and everything in between. We'll be listing them individually and in lots over the coming weeks and months since it will take awhile to list so many albums. Now onto the item for sale.
For sale is a copy of Aretha Franklin: Laughing On The Outside LP released by Columbia Records in the U.S. in 1963.
This album is the first stereo pressing and books for $80 in the most recent Goldmine price guide. The labels are the red Columbia 2 eye with Stereo 360 Sound.
Given that the matrix numbers are 1B/1B, this is certainly among the earlier pressings.
The vinyl on the album is still really clean, particularly given its age, with only a few very light to light scratches on both sides combined.
In addition to the scratches, there are some of light fingerprints, marks and smudges that we often see on vintage vinyl from being handled and stored for decades. They will almost certainly come off with a proper cleaning, such as an ultrasonic cleaning. However, there are plenty of sites online as well that show you how to properly clean vinyl without an ultrasonic cleaning machine.
We'd estimate the album to be in very good plus to excellent condition after a quick cleaning.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not play test albums, as that would take us a lifetime to do for the hundreds of albums we list very year. We give a visual description and estimated grade of the vinyl. Please see the pictures above and description below for an idea of the condition of the labels, sleeve and album cover. If there are any condition issues that you can't see, such as seam splits, scratches or spots on the vinyl, we will indicate that in the description.
The labels on the album are in excellent to near mint condition.
The inner sleeve is in very good plus to excellent condition with no seam splits.
The cover is in excellent condition with no seam splits and the white back is still quite clean.
This album will be shipped in a record shipping box via media mail with the USPS. We wrap all of our albums in bubble wrap and then add a piece of cardboard on each side for extra protection during shipping.
