Abdul-Hannan -- The Third World LP

Original 1971 US private pressing issued by Third World Alchemy My Love Has Wings (catalog # AH-1, matrix # 28631/28632, run-off groove also says "RITE 3044", artist name on the labels is "Abdul al-Hannan" with the "al-" blotted out by black marker).

Scarce cosmic free jazz album by the extremely obscure Abdul-Hannan (born Joel Hannah) from Boston. This music is VERY out there... freeform experimental dissonant music, spiritual and uncompromising, with direct nods to John Coltrane and Sun Ra, and the surreal incorporation of steel orchestra. This LP has everything you'd want if your thing is OUT free jazz (FMP, ESP-Disk, etc.)

Recorded Memorial Day, 1971, on the Boston Common. This LP is noteworthy as the very first recorded appearance of David S. Ware. Musicians also include Arnold Clapman, Rollins Ross, Ann Brudevold and Chris Amburger.

The cover is two large artwork slats literally taped onto a blank cover (there are scotch tape pieces all along the outer seams taping the artwork on -- NOTE: the only other copy of this LP I've seen had the exact same thing.)

liner notes by Abdul-Hannan: The purpose of art (music in particular) is to demonstrate transendance . When the artist himself is enslaved morally, economically, politically, or mentally, then his art in most cases, will perpetuate enslavement owing to the tyrannical foundation which supports it. Therefore, you, listener, will not find this record being sold for "chump-change" on the "slave-market". It has been five (5) years of dues and persistence to get to this point.... music on record, direct from the artist to the listener, without the "slick" proverbial promotion people.

CONDITION: Cover VG+ / Vinyl VG++   there are some air bubbles underneath the tape-up job, as is normal for private pressings like this, otherwise the cover is fine, with just a little bit of light foxing; vinyl is in nice shape, mild playwear, the first half of side 1 has a few light visual surface scratches, when checked these did not affect play at all, both sides play beautifully with minimal surface noise, there is one single tic/pop near the end of side 1 which appears to be due to a dimple in the pressing.

Graded conservatively using Goldmine standards [G / G+ / VG / VG+ / NM / ]
grade only used if record is brand new.
