Description

Budgie : In For The Kill! A1/B1 1st Press MCA 'Rainbow' Label 1974
This first pressing plays to a fantastic standard with barely any interference.  There is just one light click on each side and the clarity, depth and power of the audio is stunning.  The vast majority is 'as new' and as always I have played it in full so as to provide the 'complete' grading.  The vinyl has a superb glossy 'look' also with no marks or scratches and it is patently obvious it has only been a handful of times at most, there is only very minimal spindle wear.
The cover is one of the finest examples I have seen in a long time and has hardly any wear.  The original inner is also in superb condition.
MCF 2546 / A-1 / B-1 // GO 1 / GT 1
The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T3 Near Mint-)
The audio on S2 is Mint(-) (T1 Near Mint)
The cover is Ex+
The inner sleeve is Near Mint
The labels are Near Mint
Visual grading
The vinyl is visually stunning with a lovely glossy sheen and there are no marks or scratches to be seen.  There are just a small number of very short faint hairlines on each side but they are certainly not easy to find!  Purely superficial of course.  The run out grooves are super clean and the 'rainbow' labels have no marking or writing and only a very small amount of spindle wear.
Play grading
The intro on 'In For The Kill' plays with such resonance and depth and has only a couple of minor static ticks.  Shelley's first vocal is 'as new' and it continues to play with a quality that cannot be faulted.  As I say the audio is so deep and strong and this is in no small measure helped by how high in the mix Shelley's bass is.  Bourge's classic guitar riffs also add quite a lot!  The mid section is flawless and the final section is of the same 'high end' standard.  A Mint- start for sure.
The absolute classic 'Crash Course In Brain Surgery' plays with STUNNING sonic quality from the very first groove and doesn't let up as it progresses.  This really is audio of the highest calibre and I cannot find any faults and I have listened to it twice!  There is not even a single dust tick let alone anything more and you can turn it up to max without any distortion.  This is Mint every day of the week.
'Wondering What Everyone Knows' plays with great clarity and has only a couple of barely audible dust ticks on the first vocal.  There is one click on the second wondering what everyone knows line but there is nothing on the vinyl to suggest a cause so perhaps a pressing flaw.  From that point on it plays beautifully with no intrusion - the vast majority is obviously Mint but overall a Near Mint- is about right.
The 'quiet' intro on 'Zoom Club' has no ticks, clicks or pops and only a minor touch of static that is barely audible!  As the volume increases the playback is so powerful and the first vocal is 'as new' without a doubt.  It continues in the same precise way and again there is no distortion on the top end.  I cannot overstate just how immaculate the playback is!  There is a genuine clarity to the sound and I am sure I 'picked up' things I have never heard before.  A prime example of that is during the long mid instrumental which has a power and definition that is breathtaking!  I guess 'as new' does it justice.  The next vocal continues this fine form and every second of this classic is 'shop fresh'.  The instrumental end section with all three connecting in perfect harmony is of course faultless and it goes without saying that it grades as Mint and wow what a version!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The opening section on 'Hammer And Tongs' is of course very quiet and yet it plays with great clarity and only a couple of light ticks.  As that familiar Budgie sound comes in the audio is superb and the quality does not decrease as the vocal begins.  There is no interference of any kind and again the sonic quality is of the highest quality.  The very quiet section plays with stunning clarity and the remainder is near perfect with just one click on the fade out.  Near Mint
'Running From My Soul' is stunning from the very first groove.  An immaculate intro and the first verse is just as impressive.  The quieter mid section has no 'background' and to the end it plays with great sonic quality.  Another Mint- track.
The entire into on 'Living On Your Own' is 'as new' and without going into too much detail the rest of the track is of the same standard.  There is one minor static sound in the quieter section but this is an exceptional version without question.  The power and depth of the audio has lost none of its original quality and highly percussive mid section is mind-blowing!  Never heard better!  It plays with such dynamic quality to the very end and Mint- is well deserved.
In summary this first pressing plays to a wonderful 'high end' standard with only one click on each side.  Aside from that there are no negatives.  A visually stunning vinyl with clarity and power that is so strong and a superb cover also.  A stunning 'package' that any die-hard Budgie fan would be very impressed by.
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The laminated cover is in superb condition with very little shelf wear.  The top edge (with the title, band name and catalogue number) is very clean with no rubbing and whilst there is some on the bottom edge it really isn't that obvious.  The thin pinched spine is perfect and has no corner wear either and the right hand corners are also super clean.  The opening edge has hardly any handling wear and the front cover has no marking at all.  You can only see a small number of the usual laminate creases around the edges, a minor crease top left and a small amount of laminate lift next to the spine which is again common.  The back cover is in superb order with only a couple of very minor laminate creases.  A stunning example.
The plain white die-cut inner (with the patent number and Made In England printed on one side) is in great shape with no side splits or tears, no marking and hardly any creasing.
