Description
Welcome to my vinyl record auction for:
Black Sabbath Sabbath bloody Sabbath original LP.
Catalogue number: WWA 005
Label: WWA
Year: 1973
Matrix numbers: 1Y1/ 2Y1
Pressing: UK pressing
Cover: Original unlaminated gatefold
Additional info:
There is a lot of confusion over the various pressings of this album, As a result there are many copies about incorrectly claiming to be UK 1st press. This is the genuine article as identified by having ALL of the following features:
- Textured inner with angled corners, fold over flaps and WWA 005 printed on it. Later issues were on thicker smooth paper
- Back of sleeve ‘manufactured and printed in England’ Later copies printed in England by Howards printers (slough) ltd
- Left hand side of gatefold folded over and factory sealed
- WWA 005 is only number on label and no ABC credit above the spindle hole.
- WWA 005 1Y1 / WWA 005 2Y1 matrix numbers. Matrix numbers also have a ‘?’ and ‘*’ separating the Y and the 1. The 420 UK marker is also missed off the end of the matrix number in error.

Condition (1-5) Vinyl / Cover / Inner = 5.00/4.50/5.00
Notes: Vinyl is in stunning shape – even when examined while tilted in strong light I could only spot a single ultra light mark which I had to look very closely to find (this is being very picky – its as good as it gets for used vinyl of any age and stunning for record approaching 40 years old) Retains a fantastic deep shiny gloss and appears hardly played. Audio – there is no deterioration to the sound quality when played tested at a decent volume. I have listened to lots of original vinyl from this period they very often with quite a lot of static, clicking, popping and skipping– even copies that visually look absolutely perfect / mint – (be very careful when paying out mega money for ‘mint’ copies that have only been visually graded – the only way to know how it will sound is to play test it!). This copy is the best copy of this classic album that I have heard. No skips or repeats. Not even a single pop or click of any description. Sounds superb and plays with absolutely minimal surface noise. Even the gaps between tracks and breaks in the music are very close to silence or totally silent. It has a lovely deep, rich, warm sound that only comes from these original 1st presses. Cover is in great condition. Has very limited light general wear only – a little very light surface rubbing to the front, a couple of tiny nicks to the opening edge and a couple of small spots of light discolouration to the back. The original jet black matt finish front is super prone to wear and the rubbing on this copy is way lighter than seen on the average copy – a great copy in comparison to others, I have seen several copies over the years and this is about the best. The cover is a lovely crisp, square example with no writing, creasing, folds, seam splits, bends, or tears. Spine is in great condition and fully readable. Inner gatefold is pristine with no wear and, unusually, none of the common mottling. Complete with original inner which is in amazing condition – no wear or damage, so crisp and fresh it looks almost new. Labels Again, condition is fantastic - spotless
Stunning vinyl. Genuine and totally original 1st press copy of this brilliant album! Superb all round copy with amazing crystal clear audio. You will not better this vinyl for condition unless you can find a sealed / unplayed copy (good luck!)
Please note the following before bidding:
Grading:
I will be grading critically to avoid disappointment. (scale at bottom of page) In my experience there is no such thing as a used record that has no marking at all, if you choose to look closely enough! Hence nothing will be described as mint.

Vinyl
5 = Absolute minimal amount of ultra light, totally superficial surface hairlines / marks that are only visible when tilted under strong light. Expect no impact on audio. 4 = Light surface marks / scratches. Some more visible but all still superficial. May include 1 small slightly heavier mark affecting a single track only. Still expect no or minimal impact on audio. 3 = Some heavier marks / scratches. Expect them to be audible and slightly detract from the overall listening experience. 2 = Heavy scratches / marks. Expect to hear pronounced and distracting clicks or cracks on at least couple of tracks. 1 = Several heavy scratched / marks / other damage. Expect several tracks to be affected and a couple to the extent that they may be considered unlistenable. However should still play through.
