Description
Up for auction is a very nice original copy of the Chet Baker album "Chet Baker Sings" originally released in the U.S. on Pacific Jazz Records (PJ-1222) in 1956.
-Guaranteed original First Pressing -Mono pressing -Deep Groove labels -First State laminated jacket -From my personal collection
Condition: The jacket is in beautiful condition with only the smallest amount of age. Front lamination still retains its original glossy finish with no rubbing loss. Just a small lifting in the lower right corner. Back cover is clean, no ring wear, no losses, just a hint of rub at bottom edge. Seams are beautiful, intact, no splits, no cracks, no chips. Corners are very nice, almost no wear (see photos). Unlikely that you'll find another one of these jackets in this top condition. Grade it Near Mint (NM).
The vinyl is also in very nice condition, still has a very nice shine to it. No obvious scratches, just a few very light hairlines probably from taking the record out of the paper inner sleeve a few times. There is one small noticeable scuff on Side One, Track One, but it's superficial and cannot be felt, nor does it affect the quality of the playback that I can tell. Labels are clean. The record looks like it's been played a few times, but very carefully handled and cared for.
Play-Tested: I have play tested this record, and when played in the recommended Mono Mode, the playback is excellent full-bodied fidelity, generally clean and clear. Does have a small amount of faint "background noise" from the pressing here and there, but nothing that is really distracting from the enjoyment of the record. Chet's voice is clean, not grainy or distorted, just as is his trumpet. I have cleaned this record, which noticeably improved the sound quality, but I would recommend that the buyer clean it again on a professional record cleaner which should really maximize the potential sound quality of this nice record. Grade the vinyl Excellent (EX), noticeably better than typical VG+ copies. Copies in this condition are hard to come by.
