Description

An original 1st press of 'Hunky Dory' on the UK RCA label from 1971. Matrix 3T/3T - very 1st cut. The genuine 1st press of this title as identified by the etchings...."Bobil + Rasputin". Bear in mind that when this Lp was released at Xmas in 1971 Bowie was still relatively unknown. He'd have to wait till the following year and the advent of STARDUST for the big time. Consequently these early pressings, that pre-date the big-time for Bowie, are much harder to find. The record is a lovely heavy RCA pressing with the original Titanic publishing credits. Now, please also bear in mind that very early variations of this Lp can be found with a laminated cover. This particular example comes housed in a non-laminated cover which was also available at 1st release. PLEASE NOTE THERE'S NO LYRIC SHEET.
Vinyl (Ex-) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks either side - but nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with two deviations. Intros and inbetweens are quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. By and large a superb little player which delivers these classic tunes with aplomb. Expect a bit of background static rustle during 'Eight Line Poem' & 'Bewley Brothers'. It's relatively minor and not invasive - but these two tracks are often the first to exhibit due to their very low-key nature. All other tracks play clean with only an occasional isolated crackle. Overall a cracking rendition of one of Bowie's masterpieces.
Cover (Vg+) Very difficult to find in top condition due to the way it was manufactured. But this example is in pretty tidy condition. The front is relatively clean and unaged with just some light handling. The rear is very nice too with just some very light foxing. Edge wear is relatively light with just a bit along the top edge and a 1c.m. patch where it's heavy. The spine looks in well above average condition - with pretty much all text legible. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) A bit of ageing and a couple of splits have been taped up.
