Description
Up for sale is an ultra rare vinyl from the legendary Detroit Hip Hop group 5 Elements released in 1997/1998
This record is incredibly rare and very collectable for a few reasons:
1). It features a newly formed group (D12)
2). The name of the D12 track is misspelt
3). 3 of the 5 tracks are produced by J Dilla (then known as Jay Dee)
As far as I know there are two other pressings of this record. One of which 100 were made making this version incredibly rare (dare I say it could be the only one)
The record is in good condition (if not very good but expect some wear and a scratch that does not affect play)
5 Elements were an active detroit hip hop group in the mid-late 90s. The group consisted of members of Thyme, Mudd and Proof (RIP). The group had a couple of releases and mix tapes but in the 90s they released Yester Years EP (1996), The Album That Time Forgot (1998) and 5-E Part.3 (1999)
Misconception:
Many people refer this vinyl as the Yester Years EP however the matrix number on the vinyl is WAS 003 which links to The Album That Time Forgot so therefore it would be fair to assume that this vinyl was made for DJs to play on the radio (hence why some tracks have "Radio" written next to them) however I dont believe the viynl is sensored (I have played it twice since owning)
Rariety & Collectability:
1). It features a newly formed group D12
So as I explained before 5 Ela were already infamous in the hip hop scene in detroit and Proof wanted to form a new group called D12 initally wanting 12 members, however it was narrowed down to 6 (each having 2 alisies for example Eminem was Slim Shady). Featuring D12 on this record I think was a very strategic decision by Proof since it would give them a platform. This would then lead the group trying to make their first project The Underground EP under REAL ENTERTAINMENT however was released a few years later on as a tribute to BUGZ
2). The track that is featured is "Filthy" however on this record it has the track misspelt. Either that or what is written is the original title (cant say which)
3). 3 out of the 5 Tracks were produced by J Dilla (Then known as JAY DEE)
Goes without saying having a legendary producer on the record makes it even more collectable especially given Dillas success
Provinance:
I brought this record a few years ago from a guy who was selling the record on behalf of an ATLANTA DJ who was down sizing his collection after the COVID pandemic. I can confirm that this record is 100% authentic
