THE JAZZ SCENE, Mercury Records, 1949, various artists, limited edition of 5,000 copies. This copy is numbered 1140 and signed by Norman Granz. Deluxe set of six 12" 78 rpm albums with spectacular photography by Gjon Mili, essays and David Stone Martin artwork. All six albums are present and are in very good condition with little play. No skips, we played them all for quality and found a few light pops- really VERY, VERY nice condition. The black cloth covered folio has some light fade and wear with bumped corners, some wear to the gilt lettering of producer Norman Granz' name at lower corner. Some slight toning to the pages of accompanying text, due to age, very minor foxing to some areas. The six album sleeves intact(including flap closures) but have been reinforced at the bottom, cover page of the text between sleeves has been toned from the acidity of the brown paper sleeve and a pale circle on browner page is the result. All pages can be removed and rearranged with the metal ring binding. The text about the artists is insightful and the soulful balck and white photographic portraits by Mili are worthy of framing. The six records are issued on the MERCURY Label.
