This one is hand numbered 1296 and signed in ink on the title page by Norman Granz. Each page measures 12" x 13". The covers are bound in book form with a cloth finish. There are over 30 large, full page black and white photos of the Jazz greats as listed below. All were taken by noted Jazz photographer Gjon Mili. There is also a 12" x 23" fold out page featuring artwork by David Stone Martin Artists: Duke Ellington, Neal Hefti, Coleman Hawkins, Ralph Burnes, Charlie Parker, Machito, Bud Power, Willie Smith, George Handy, Lester Young, and others. Label:Each side has a different number. Mercury 2071, 2072, 2073, 2074, 2075, 2077, 2078, 2172, 2081, 2198, 2199. Not sure why these numbers should skip, but they do. Color of Label: Green and black Mono Year: 1949 Condition of Vinyl: All sides are mint- Condition of Jacket: VG+ Outside jacket shows some light wear. The pages inside are victims of water stains. The Stone Martin print has some light brown spots here and there (minor). The title page is clean. The first 3 photo pages have the most problems, mostly on the blank backs, see pictures of the photos, but still not bad. The Billy Strayhorn is the worst. Most of the other photos have signs of the water stain on the back, but they look fine. This is unfortunate, but this copy still looks great. Rare set in any condition.
Please Note: All cutout holes, corner clippings and stickers that can easily be seen in the photo will not be noted in the description.
A word about grading records.
We have carefully described the condition of every record that we are listing on ebay. Everything we sell comes with a money back guarantee.
If a record is sealed, it is often difficult to determine if it is a first pressing. Please feel free to ask questions about any items. 631-423-8449 We will be glad to help.
Sealed... These records have the original factory seal. The cellophane may have tears or wear and this will be noted. The jacket is Vg++ or better unless otherwise noted.
MINT- or Mint Minus - Like new... The record has the original glossy finish, packaging is bright and clean and there is no wear or marks on the label. The jacket is clean and shows no signs of wear.
VG++ or VERY GOOD++...Excellent condition. May have a few scuffs or very slight scratches or have the possibility of some minor rubs on the label or spindle. The jacket is clean but may have a slight corner crease or other light wear. there may be the beginning of a split, but nothing significant. This is a very collectible grade.
VG+ or VERY GOOD+...Has the beginnings of some light general wear or some scratches that may sound. There can be a split in the jacket and some label wear.
VG or VERY GOOD...General wear on record, label or jacket. These are not bad copies, in some cases they may be the best copies you might find on a rare record or a good filler copy.
Fair to Good...This grade can be OK for a filler copy, but there may be heavy scratches that skip, writing on the label or a jacket that has writing, large splits or wear. We usually do not offer this grade unless the record is rare. Sometimes the jacket has all of the value or the record has all the value.
Our grading is conservative-We tend to under grade! Please bid with confidence on these records, you will be pleased with the results.
