Description

Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick

(Chrysalis CHR 1003 UK LP 1972)

This is a UK original LP pressing. It has a heavyweight newspaper style gatefold sleeve. This has a fold-out part at the bottom of the front & rear part of the sleeve. The front and back part of the sleeve is printed on textured card. The newspaper pages are stapled firmly at the centre of the inner gatetfold. It is fully complete. The record comes with its original generic company plain paper inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & have dark green "Chrysalis" labels. These have the white "i" Island logo at the bottom edge. Only the very earliest UK pressings have the white "i" Island logo on them. The record has 1st press A-3U/ B-2U matrix stampers. "Porky" and "Pecko" are etched in the dead wax on Side 1 and Side 2 respectively. A genuine UK 1st pressing of this excellent early 1970's UK Prog-Rock-Folk LP.

Gatefold/ Newspaper Sleeve: There is a small finger-tip sized dent at the centre of the spine area. This has caused a 1 cm area of more moderate rubbing wear in that area too. There is some mild, very mild or more moderate rubbing wear on the top edges on some areas. There is some mild fading along the bottom edge. There is some very minor fading to the "white" of the sleeve. There is some mild to more moderate fading to the newspaper pages. As stated, the newspaper pages are firmly stapled at the inner gatefold. There are no loose pages & no tears. The dot-to-dot puzzle on one page has not been completed. There is some mild to more moderate creasing to the fold-out bottom area of the newspaper pages - not the sleeve. There is a small crease, & mild or very mild foxing, on the fold-out part of the rear sleeve. There is light, mild or more moderate rubbing wear to the front spine edge on some areas. The spine text shows some rubbing wear but is still just about legible. This sleeve is extremely prone to wear. Overall, this is a very reasonable copy. Very Good+ condition

Vinyl: There are some light, mild or very mild sleeve rubs which can only be seen under a strong light. The inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, mild or very mild dull surface marks on some areas. These, again, can only be seen under a strong light. Very Good+ condition. The labels are in Excellent+ condition & show light or very minor spindle wear only. The company inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.

I have fully play tested this LP. It plays Very Good to Very Good+ overall. There is some light, mild or very mild crackle in the background to a varying degree. This is only really noticeable in the quieter places. There are a couple of areas of more moderate crackle. This doesn't last too long. The crackle does not overpower the music in any place. There are no noticeable clicks or pops.

This LP would definitely benefit from a professional deep down groove clean. Any crackle, in the main, is just due to deep down dirt in the grooves. This LP would, I believe, play at least Excellent & better after a professional deep down groove clean.
