The Lords Of Flatbush is a small masterpiece that places the mood and general ethos of the '50s with absolute precision and total affection. The Lords are teenage high school friends in Brooklyn - or as they winningly call themselves, 'a social and athletic club'. The film observes their relationships and muffed sexual encounters over some months in 1958, the year one of their number gets married. Their interaction as teenage pals is typical and innocent. They're competitive yet immature. However, when you add the nostalgic, black leather jackets, plus a dynamic rock & roll soundtrack.... this film more than blossoms. Great original music, that still holds up. Sylvester Stallone as the violent Stanley gives a very strong performance as does Perry King as his friend Chico. Henry Winkler of “The Fonz” fame also stars.
