Description
Despite the title, the two artists do not perform together on the LP, they are represented on each side by separate live appearances at The Newport Jazz Festival. Side one has a series of high tempo performances of The Miles Davis Sextet, an all-star lineup that includes; John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Paul Chambers, Wynton Kelly, and Jimmy Cobb. Side two offers a few numbers by The Thelonious Monk Quartet with Pee Wee Russell. Monk's approach is very different, he responds to Pee Wee Russell playing retro licks on the clarinet, you can almost see the two smiling at each other. They're having fun and replaying musical jokes and memories. This is how the personalities of the bandleaders come through. Together they make for an enjoyable listening experience. It gives the listener an opportunity to compare two jazz masters on a single album. The vinyl is in excellent condition. The cover is in near mint condition still wearing the poly wrap. Columbia Records, #CS 8978, Miles Davis (1958) is Mono, Thelonious Monk (1963) is STEREO. Thank you for looking. (Grading Order; Mint, Near Mint, Excellent, Very Good+, Very Good, Good, etc...)
