Description

Here’s a seriously rare Northern Soul monster 45! This is the classic dancer “Sleepless Nights”, with the artist being simply listed as Paris. Its on the Doc label, number 102, and is guaranteed to be original! The flip on this record is “Wishing Well”. It dates from around 1967. I was told that this particular record was “discovered” in the late Wigan Casino period, circa 1980.  The artist, I believe, is actually named Freddie Paris.

Condition-wise, I have to start off by saying that this copy has seen WAY better days. On the good side of things, it DOES play through without skipping, though that’s about the best compliment I can give it. The record is heavily scratched, and is not particularly pretty to look at at all. Make no mistake- this is nowhere near a mint copy!!!! For those curious as to how it sounds, I have posted a link featuring the first minute or so of each tune. The first minute, particularly of the “Sleepless Night” side, is the worst area in terms of where the scratches are located, so keep in mind you are hearing the worst parts of it. I did not use any sort of digital noise reduction or sonic cleanup on the files. However, I did flip the “mono” switch on my record player, which helps reduce noise on old 45s, and this is no exception. Mono is the “right” way to play mono 45’s! Aside from the noise the scratches produced, I was pleased to find a minimum of actual play wear in the grooves, hence the “in your face” kind of sound you’ll hear on the mp3 I posted. I did try playing this 45 two different record players… a low-end player with a heavier tonearm, and a higher-end player with a counter-balenced tonearm, and it did not skip on either player.

There is an “A” written on (strangely) the B-side label, probably from a DJ. This record is so darn rare, nearly all copies came from radio stations, as so few copies were ever sold in stores.

Buyer pays $3.00 in the US, shipped via first class. Shipping to Europe is $8. INTERNATIONAL BIDS WELCOME. I accept money orders, Paypal, and personal checks, but with a hold for clearance. California residents add 8.275% tax. Happy bidding!! Popcorn funk mod Freddy
