Description

Beatles’ Original 1963 White Label “She Loves You’/”I’ll Get You” SWAN Records 45 RPM Promo Copy. From the private collection of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame DJ Peter C. Cavanaugh -- This is an extremely RARE promotional issue of the single with WHITE label and BLACK writing. In late August of 1963, Peter was a 21 year-old DJ on WNDR in Syracuse. WNDR’s Program Director, Dan Leonard, had a close relationship with Swan Records in Philadelphia and occasionally tested product for his friend, Tony Mammarella, at Swan. Dan also worked with Dick Clark promoting “The Dick Clark Cavalcade of Stars” in Central New York – also taking busloads of Syracuse teens down to WFIL-TV in Philadelphia to appear on “American Bandstand.” Dick also reportedly had an interest in Swan. Dan inserted “She Loves You” into rotation as a “Crusher Cavanaugh Pick of the Week” prior to its official release in September of 1963. Failing to attain desirable initial traction, it was shortly removed from airplay. Since Peter loved the tune, he claimed the disc for “record hops.” This recording also displays machine stamped “Mastering Reco-Art Phila. S-4 1 5-2 S” in the run-off vinyl. Mr. Cavanaugh finally met with and interviewed The Beatles at Olympia Stadium in Detroit in September of 1964. This concert provides background for the first chapter of “Local DJ”, which additionally includes reference to WNDR’s earlier Syracuse exposure of the band. An autographed copy of the book is included in this package.
