Description

 -Artist / Group: Stan Cayer

-Mini bio: Based in Vancouver B.C., Canada, Stan Cayer operated a recording studio called S.G.M. (Stan's Good Music). Stan Cayer released two classic teen rock singles in 1963 on his own S.G.M. record label which were both recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with session musicians Charlie McCoy on harmonica, Argus Robinson on keyboards, Red West on drums and Harold Bradley played lead guitar (brother of Owen "Big Guitar" Bradley) with Stan Cayer on vocals.

-The two singles were Crying On My Pillow / Letter To Santa (S.G.M. 52798/99) and Three Wild Women / Why Did I Cry (S.G.M. 52389/90), both released in 1963.

-In 1964, Stan Cayer re-released Crying On My Pillow B/W Why Did I Cry (S.G.M. 52389/99).

-Finally in 1971, Stan Cayer released his last single Take My Hand / I Love You (Lynne) on Canadian London M.17402. Both sides were produced by Stan Cayer and were recorded on Jan. 21, 1971 at S.G.M. recording studios in Vancouver B.C.

-Stan Cayer went on to perform as a regular on the Canadian CBC Television series Music Hop which was broadcast across Canada.

-Stan Cayer is still as popular as ever in Vancouver and recently performed on stage at the Cottage Bistro in Vancouver with the Y&R Band. The appreciative crowd went wild, screaming for more...afterwards copies of Stan Cayer's new CD album were quickly sold out to a jam-packed and appreciative crown of fans.

-Titles: Crying On My Pillow / Letter To Santa

-Crying On My Pillow written by Stan Cayer and recorded in Nashville, Tennessee is a melodic mid-tempo teen rocker with great guitar throughout from Harold Bradley including a hot solo, Stan Cayer does a fine job on vocals with uncredited female backing vocalists...possibly the Del-Ettes.

-Vancouver radio station deejay Red Robinson played Crying On My Pillow in 1963 on radio station CFUN's the Battle Of The New Sounds, and Stan Cayer's record came out on top and eventually reached #10 on CFUN's Top 40 radio charts.

-Letter To Santa also written by Stan Cayer is a novelty Christmas number with excellent vocals from Stan Cayer, nice backing vocals from the Del-Ettes, and good musical accompaniment from the Nashville, Tennessee session musicians.

-Label: S.G.M. 52798/99

-Year released: 1963

-Billboard number: Non-charted. Reached #10 on Vancouver radio station CFUN's Top 40 charts.

-Canadian pressing

-Visual grade: Although visually a VG due to a myriad of light surface scratches, because the record is pressed on vinyl and not styrene, both sides of the record play with excellent fidelity, no distortion, and while there is some background noise at the lead-in, once the needle hits the grooves and the music starts, the music is louder than the background noise.

-Label: VG+ with wear commensurate with many plays from previous owners.

-Very rare single in any type of condition.

-Record grading:

(M) Mint: We don't use this grade as no record is perfect, even SS records can have tiny flaws.

(SS) Still sealed: Still sealed in the factory shrink wrap.

(M-) Mint minus: A nearly perfect record. The record will show no obvious signs of wear. Original finish intact. Picture sleeves should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling.

(VG+) Very good plus: The record will show some signs that it was played or otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or light scratches. Picture sleeves may have some slight ring wear, lightly turned up corners, or a small seam split.

(VG) Very good: Many of the defects found in a VG+ record or sleeve will be more pronounced in a VG record or picture sleeve. Groove wear may be noticeable, the record may have light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound, but the foreign noises will be less prominent than the music. Picture sleeves may have quite prominent ring wear. Creases, folds, seam splits and tears will be more obvious and may appear on all three sides, and there may be writing as well.

(VG-) Very good minus: Foreign noises may be about as prominent as the music. The record still plays through without skipping. The picture sleeve will have more significant seam splits, perhaps to the point where they were taped closed, and highly obvious ring wear and heavier writing. Can serve as a filler until a better one comes along.

(G) Good: We seldom offer a good record for sale unless it is particularily rare for the following reasons: Foreign noises are louder than the recorded music and listening can be distracted by the noise. May or may not play through without skipping, but should be so noted. Picture sleeves are so badly seam split that they may not be able to contain the record within.Tears, folds, writing and ring wear may be overwhelming.
