Description

I purchased this album on its day of release, November 22nd 1968,  from a record shop on Deansgate, Manchester (Next to George Best's boutique; the record shop had a basaement as I recall).

This is the rare 1968 MONO UK 1st Press of 'The White Album by The Beatles. This 1st press is on the dark Apple label. It has the earliest MONO -1/-1//-1/-1 matrix and 1st Press 'Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.' fully-laminated GATEFOLD sleeve.

The stamper markings are as follows:

Side One XEX 709-1 G OM

Side Two XEX710-1  OL

Side Three XEX711-1  GD 11  2

Side Four XEX712-1  M  7

There are the four photographs but no poster.

SOUND QUALITY

The condition of the vinyls vary on the four sides.

Side One plays well with no jumps and the sound is very good. 

Side Two 'Martha My Dear' and 'Blackbird' have small jumps but again the overall sound is very good.

Side 3 'Happy Birthday' has a jump and there is a click at the start of 'Long Long Time'

Side 4 This is the downer on playing the record for the first time since 1983.  'Revolution #1' and  is spoiled by a scratch which causes it to jump and you cringe as you realise how good the sound is.  Also this vinyl side has single jumps on 'Honey Pie' and 'Cry Baby Cry'. 'Revolution #9' has a regular click at the start of the track. 

Overall the sound is deep and rich as you would expect from such an early batch.

The records need an experienced hand to clean them, I'm out of touch with vinyls this century.

The photographs are in reasonable nick and the original black sleeves have side splits through normal useage.
