Description
For sale is a copy of The Beatles self-titled tenth studio album, ‘The Beatles’ commonly known as ‘The White Album’.
This is an original UK MONO 1st Pressing produced in early 1968 featuring the sought-after top-opening sleeve.
The serial number on this copy is #0019720 meaning that this one of the first 20000 albums produced! (Over 2 million sold in total).
The records feature the rare misprint in which ‘An EMI Recording’ is not printed on the labels.
This copy is complete with black die cut inners, four photo card portraits and lyric inner. I ran out of available picture but pictures of these can be sent via message if interested.
Please see below for further details.
Many vinyl records are mis-sold on eBay. There are several details which identify this copy as a true 1st pressing. They are:
· Laminated gatefold sleeve with embossed ‘The Beatles’ text and 7 digit serial number.
· Dark green Apple logo labels.
· ‘Sold in the U.K. …’ text on all four of the labels.
· ‘An E.M.I. Recording’ not present on any of the labels.
· ‘PCS 7068’ catalogue number.
· Matrix numbers YEX 709-1 (side 1), YEX 710-1 (side 2), YEX 711-1 (side 3), YEX 712-1 (side 4).
I try to take pictures which provide a fair representation of the condition of a record and the sleeve. If interested, please read below for a detailed discussion including an audio description.
I use the Goldmine standard as a reference for grading.
Vinyl: Very Good +
The records are in superb visual condition and have fantastic playback.
The surface of the vinyl on both records retains the original gloss sheen.
The labels of Sides 1, 3 and 4 are bright and clean and have virtually no spindle wear.
The label on side 2 has a small scuff such that some of the writing is not visible.
There are hairline marks which can be picked up in the light on all four sides, not of which can be felt or heard.
The audio on all four sides is fantastic; clear vocal, punchy bass and crisp details.
‘Blackbird’ is always my test on White Albums and it plays superbly on this copy with very little dust crackle.
There is minimal dust crackle on the other tracks and no skips or jumps.
A really enjoyable record to listen to.
Sleeve: Very Good
The sleeve is in great condition.
Both the front, rear and centrefold are very white with very few blemishes.
There are no laminate ripples, lifts, or bubbles.
There is a small stain to the bottom left hand corner on the front and rear.
The corners are sharp, the edges are crisp and the spine is well defined other than a 8cm split at the top.
The number is very clear and the embossed ‘THE BEATLES’ text is very distinct.
Inners: Excellent
The original black die cut inner sleeves, 4 photocard pictures and, the lyric poster are all included.
The inner sleeves are without any rips or tears and with minimal creasing.
Also included in the sale are two audiophile quality inner sleeves which provide the best possible protection for the records.
The four photocard portraits of each of the Beatles are also in excellent condition (not pictured as ran out of photos – you all know what they look like!).
The poster is excellent without any rips or discolouration.
This is a fantastic copy of an extremely rare record. Copies with serial numbers this low are seldom sold, here is a great chance to get a copy!
The outer sleeve, vinyl, and inner sleeve are all housed separately within a premium quality polythene outer sleeve.
The record will be sent within a padded vinyl record mailer.
