GoldmineMagazine Record Grading Standard
Mint: Perfect, flawless. Legitimatesellers seldom use this grade. When a record is truly Mint, it deserves (andreceives) a large premium over other grades.
M- or NRMT (Mint Minus or Near Mint): Usually the highest grade. Recordsfrom the 1950's & 60's in this condition are truly rare. The recordshould show no obvious signs of wear.
VG+ (Very Good Plus): Starting to showsigns of wear. May have minor surface marks/scratches. Cover may have slightlyworn Corners/edges or have a slight seam split.
VG (Very Good): Still OK condition, but more wear thanVG+. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in softpassages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music.Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enoughto feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound, Slight warps that do notaffect the sound are "OK".
VG- (Very Good Minus): Generally notcollectible condition, unless it’s a super rare record. Most dealers avoidrecords in this shape or below. A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or otherdefects will start to overwhelm the object. The record will havesignificant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear.
G (Good): Lots of wear, but stillplayable. The most confusing grade! Good really does not mean good. It isactually quite poor condition. The LP cover barely keeps the LP inside it.Inner sleeves are fully seam split, crinkle and written upon.
