In 1949, Norman Granz set out to create the definitive document of the jazz scene as it was at that moment: this superb collection is the result! A limited (to 5,000), numbered and signed spiral-bound folio consisting of 6 78 rpm albums in individual envelope covers, a foldout print of an original drawing by David Stone Martin, and 30 full-page black and white photographs of the musicians by Gjon Mili (for the most part), Harold Trudeau and Paul Nodler. The six records are issued on the Mercury label.

One of the cornerstone records in the jazz pantheon! No serious jazz collection should be without this piece!! 

Condition: I'm unable to play records at this speed so can only visually grade the albums. All the sides have light scuffs and scratches, so some noise should be expected: they grade from VG to VG+ (see grading definitions below). The folio itself has been well cared for. The cover has some spots and scuffs. There's a gift inscription on the 1st page. All pages are firmly attached to the spirals (no tears). Some pages are bent at the bottom corner. Includes the postcard so you can write Granz and encourage him to get cracking on the future editions he mentions.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: Please do not pay until you receive an invoice! Due to the increasing number of buyers claiming they never received their package we're forced to require that oversees shipments totalling $40 or more be registered so both parties can track them. This package will be very heavy so expect to pay a significant amount for shipping!

Grading Definitions

• NEAR MINT: The record appears to be unplayed, with no loss of sound quality. The cover and packaging have no signs of wear.
• EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality (may have occasional light noise). The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
• VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
• GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and the contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
