Description
The debut album from The Velvet Underground from 1967. The album led by Lou Reed has Nico collaborating on vocals.
This is rare 1st pressing with the 'Runouts' : V5008 A-2 & V 5008 B-2. with the stampers 1G and 1G.
This is the MONO version.
I will do my best do describe the album, with any flaws, as best, and as honestly, as possible. It must be stated that I am NOT a dealer and am starting to sell my album collection with a tinge of disappointment, but it is out of necessity for more space - and a few pennies !!
The cover is good however has a few flaws, as shown in the photographs.
At the top of the cover is a small 'chip', along the length of the spine on the front cover are a few 'crimps'. On the rear of the cover there is a pencil written price and there are light ring marks from the internal vinyl.
The vinyl itself is used however still retains a medium/good gloss. There are some 2-3 light surface marks on both sides -none you can feel ( or even see in most lights ). This being the case I played the album and give my opinion below.
SIDE 1
Track 1 - Light occasional vinyl crackle Track 2 - Light occasional vinyl cradle that hides when the track becomes more upbeat. Track 3 - Light vinyl crackle with a few light pops Track 4 - Light occasional vinyl crackle Track 5 - Light occasional vinyl crackle with approx. 30 seconds of light pops about half way through. Track 6 - Light occasional vinyl cradle - light about 1 min from end
SIDE 2
Track 1 - Track starts with 1m30s of light pops , light vinyl crackle Track 2 - Light occasional vinyl crackle Track 3 - Light occasional vinyl crackle Track 4 - Light occasional vinyl crackle Track 5 - Light occasional vinyl crackle
How honest is that.
In my opinion the 'vinyl crackle' I refer to is normal of vinyl of age and is never constant and often disappears during the upbeat tracks. I only mention it to be honest. The most intrusive is the first 1m30 on Side 2.
Playing it, especially at volume, is amazing. You know you are playing vinyl ( in MONO ! ), but what a piece of musical history. This album is 49 years old, its only going to get rarer and sets a centrepiece to any growing vinyl collection.
This album is not only a first album by a defining band, but a rare piece of musical history.
I'm not letting this album go lightly - I hope you enjoy it makes you the envy of your friends.
