Description

Hello there, come on in and welcome to the auction!

As you can see from my 100% feedback, I sell with complete honesty and reliability.  Above all things I am a record collector and music lover.  I only sell records that I would want to receive. I know well the disappointment of receiving an over-graded record that turns up two weeks late.  That is not the service you will receive here, so bid with total confidence. I don’t sell a lot of records because I spend a lot of time carefully finding, grading and listing them and do not like to rush this process, as many sellers must do to be able to sell 100 records a week!

I am mostly a collector of old time music, pre-war blues and folk, so buy job-lots that often contain rare records that aren’t to my taste so to ebay they go!

(On that note, if you have any early American blues or folk to swap or sell, please get in touch!)

Anyway, enough of the chit chat and on to the record at hand….

The Who

Who’s Next

August 25th 1971

2408 102

Track Records

Stereo

Up for auction is a UK first pressing of The Who’s Who’s Next iconic record!

To describe a variant of this album as extremely rare requires explanation because when it was released in 1971 The Who were well established as one of the most successful Rock Groups ever; and this particular album was, in commercial terms, huge.  It made #1 in the UK charts and sold millions worldwide in all its various formats, consequently it’s not surprising that there are a lot of examples offered for sale on a regular basis and if you just want any old standard copy they are easy to find and relatively inexpensive.

HOWEVER, A UK FIRST PRESS, FIRST ISSUE EXAMPLE IN NEAR EXCELLENT TO NEAR MINT CONDITION LIKE THIS IS UNDOUBTEDLY AN EXTREME RARITY – AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IS OFFERED FOR SALE IN THIS LISTING.  THE FIRST MATRICES, FIRST MOTHERS VERY EARLY STAMPERS, MG 12888 CODE on a SUPERB HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL in EXCELLENT PLUS CONDITION, housed in the MacNEILL PRESS COVER with the faint ‘DL’ prefixed over-printed number in the front top left corner and the red blocked  ‘MARKETED BY POLYDOR’ in the back bottom right corner are ALL CLEAR EVIDENCE OF A FIRST PRESS, FIRST ISSUE OF THIS ALBUM.

.

This is the first press with the unlaminated MacNeill printed outer sleeve which is superb condition

It has the 1st press matt black labels.

To come across a first press Who record is always a rarity, but in this condition, it’s once in a lifetime!

Not only that, but it has the earliest stampers, making it the closest you can surely get to that studio sound and in nr Mint quality throughout!

You have just found your final upgrade!

Sleeve Condition.

The 1st print unlaminated sleeve is in superb condition!  There are no stains, splits or writing to mention!  All the edges are straight and crisp with only the very mildest shelf wear to corners.  The colours are as vibrant as they were on the day of release.   The spine is perfectly readable as it should be.  This truly is a stunner of a sleeve, when so often they are found in terrible states due to the thin nature of the card! Amazing!

Excellent +

Inner Condition.

The 1st press poly lined white inner with grey text is in splendid condition, with no writing, stains or tears to mention!  All the edges are nice and sharp and it holds the record perfectly as it should!  Perfect!!!

Label Condition.

The first press black Track labels are in fantastic condition.  There are no rips, rubbing, writing or stains to mention.  There is no centre hole damage at all.  Even under a strong light, only 1 minor invisible spindle lines can be seen!  It’s clear that this record has been played maybe once or twice at most!

Vinyl Visual Condition.

The record itself looks beautiful!  It still retains its factory shine and lustre with no scratches or warping at all.  Under a strong halogen bulb only a few random wispy removals can be seen!  It looks like new, simple as!

Nr Mint

Vinyl Audio Condition.

The record sounded great from start to finish.  The sound was sharp and clear with no distortion, jumps or skips at all!  I didn’t hear a single click throughout.  The band was clearly separable by the ear on all frequencies! This is how a first press should be heard! There was some minor static on the first run in of side 1 that I’m sure a deep clean could remove, but it was barely noticeable.  Even on full volume it sounded amazing! Baba O’Riley is a joy to the ears, it really is!

Nr Mint

So there we have it.  Arguably the cleanest and most pristine example of 1st press Who’s Next that you will ever come across.

A Rare Who 1st Press Gem!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Happy Bidding

All my records will be sent first class, signed for and insured to their value!

I will package the records with extreme care, with hard stiffeners and the vinyl separate to the sleeve and inner, all housed in a Defenda lock tab record box envelope.

I try to be as honest as I can in my descriptions, taking as many pictures as possible, but if you don’t feel happy with your purchase, I offer no quibble full refunds as soon as the record is sent back.  I will not give partial refunds however, only full.  I think this is fair, Thanks!
