VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR - PEOPLE YOU WERE GOING TO b/w FIREBRAND
UK POLYDOR 56758 WITHDRAWN 1968 DEBUT 45 VG+ CONDITION w/ Company Sleeve.
THIS 1968 RELEASE IS SURELY ONE OF THE RAREST LATE SIXTIES UK PSYCHEDELIC 45'S .
IT MOST LIKELY WAS ONLY EVER PRODUCED IN AN INITIAL RUN OF NO MORE THAN SEVERAL HUNDRED COPIES, FEW OF WHICH EVIDENTLY SOLD, AND IT CERTAINLY DID NOT CHART OR SELL IN ANY NUMBERS AT ALL. ADDING TO THIS FORLORN SCENARIO THE 45 WAS SUBSEQUENTLY WITHDRAWN WITHIN DAYS OF ISSUE, AS THE BAND WAS PREVIOUSLY CONTRACTED TO US BASED MERCURY RECORDS. WITH THE WITHDRAWN COPIES PRESUMABLY BEING DESTROYED. OUCH!! HOW MANY COPIES OF THIS LANDMARK DEBUT 45 BY ONE OF THE GREAT BANDS OF THEIR ILK & ERA SURVIVED? JUDGING FROM THE EVIDENCE, AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, NOT VERY MANY AT ALL. LOW DOUBLE DIGITS WOULD BE MY GUESS...
A BOLD CLAIM, YES, BUT THE FACTS BEAR THIS OUT.

The vinyl of this copy is minimally VG+, some might be tempted to grade it higher. There are NO SCRATCHES of any kind, it is a very nice condition vinyl, clean & unmarked, bright & glossy. This has been in my collection for over 30 years, in all that time I've never encountered another copy for sale! Have a listen to the sound clip, it is, of course, recorded from this actual copy of the single.
The labels are bright, clean & unmarked. Just as they were when they left the pressing plant over 42 years ago. See the photo's for evidence of this. The center of the 45 is totally intact.
The company sleeve has a mark where a customs VAT export sticker was removed, the other side is clean & in good condition.
This is a very acceptable condition copy of an extremely rare UK psych 45 , who's to say when or if a cleaner copy may be showing up....
